Also... If you load up the desktop version of the YouTube website, you can still select 1080p, so the issue is not the phone losing its 1080p ability, just a software issue. This is why updates are staggered, to catch these little issues early before the entire user base had the problem.

Interesting how then, using my phone and the Web site, logged in I can still see the 1080p options, and play at that resolution.
Somehow my account server side has decided that the restrictions somehow only apply to the app.... Curious theory you have

I still don't see where it states is a server side account setting that's restricting our ability to view 1080p. All I see is a two month old post indicating that 1080p was added as an option to the YouTube app via server side change in the latest (as of two months ago) app.

But what do I know. I'm just a retired tech.

That wasn't what I was trying to say. You said it was only the 1080p option was missing because it reports the device resolution as lower than 1080p, if this were true the 480p option would still be there.
What I'm guessing is that even if the 480p/1080p 'flag' is set to 'true' on your account, its locked to 'false' by the 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 OSes.

I thought there's an option to prevent youtube from streaming HD with data. Apparently that's not why… Sucks…
