Its nothing to do with hardware or borrowing. Its all about identity. And its mainly about os. Color os have cool features, that's fine. But in terms of performance and smoothness its one of the worst os and oxygen os is one the best. They have merged their software teams not what we will get is colour os with some core OnePlus apps like OnePlus launcher, settings app but underlying system will be same as colour os. And don't tell me we will get faster updates no midrange oppo phones got fast update same thing with Realme and same will happen with OnePlus.

This sadly explains the mess that oxygen11 has become. Esp for oneplus7 devices. My first and last OnePlus device op7pro. I never had to use a device with older software for stability except the op7pro.

OxygenOS and ColorOS share a lot of code... In OxygenOS there is a lot of ColorOS code left that isn't used. So they have shared core android code for years, it just got official now.

In general, bigger software team = Faster and more reliable software updates, so I got my hope up :)

Bigger software team usually means faster and smoother software... But time will tell, maybe we will get a lot faster updates or the update schedule stays the same. I just chose to be optimistic about this happening

In worst case the quality of OnePlus phones will be the same... But one would think the quality will improve because of the huge R&D money now.
I would say the quality in terms of hardware is better on the Oppo find x3 pro compared to 9pro this year.(basically they are the same device)

They don't share lot of code atleast untill android 10. Oxygen os was constructed on top CyanogenMod that was great and close to stock android os. On the other hand colour os was heavy trash and has improved over the years by removing unused code and features to get some performance boost over the year. But still its nowhere near oxygen os in performance.
Bigger team indeed mean more developement but they have more devices to manage so they have more work as well. And it will worsen the update for mid range OnePlus phones. Why?
Because at first OnePlus have to mange 10 phones and oppo have to manage 50 phone models. Now the team will have to manage 70 phone(OnePlus will rebrand more models now)
And software update comes to flagships first with OnePlus and oppo merged they have twice as much flagship models so no chance for midrange to get updates on time.
