A new phone, still no AOD

Come one OnePlus, where is the AOD? We get an even bigger battery in the pro, still no notification led and you only inch closer with some kind of edge light feature. Give us always on display already and at least the option to enable/disable. Why are you making it so difficult?

I was planning on purchasing my first OnePlus phone with the 7 pro. Everything looked great. OxygenOS looks like exactly what I was looking for. Love what I'm seeing with the speed and hardware. No notch or in-screen cutout.

But... no AOD? Not even an option? I can't imagine not having this feature now that I've used it.

OnePlus Devs - is there even a chance of this coming as an option in the near future?

Not even an option. They once enabled it in the OnePlus 6 as a beta build I believe but then removed it after due to battery drain. I honestly think that's a load of crap. These phones have astounding battery life for the most part and I know for a fact there's been a ton of requests for AOD in previous phones and builds. But here we are, still no option.

As far as I know, the "new" display still can't go below 60Hz so the drain with AoD will still be a lot ( 3-4%/hr+ added to whatever the usual is). On top of that, the new fall detection mechanism also will probably drain a lot of power in the background. Personally, I think the OP7 pro will not do so well in idle, and the insane display size + resolution + refresh rate will destroy its battery.

Quite so. Just let it retail. We should have the forum flooded with complaints of battery drain on the OP 7pro in no time.

Eh I'm going to go for one anyway. There is no better review than the one you give it yourself.

We all feel that loss. ;) Battery drain is pretty significant I must say. Just switched from 90 to 60 refresh rate - we'll see if this has any impact.

I have my reasons for my disappointments with OP7 Pro, but AOD is not one of them. For me, tap to display is great, and I leave it that way on my Samsung device as well.

I hope that OnePlus give users more choices though. Disabling features like AOD or aggressive RAM management by shutting down apps seem like as if they have no confidence in their products.

Let the users decide whether or not they prefer all the options turned on, at the expense of battery life. The choice shooluod be user's.

There are no AOD in Oneplus 7 and 7 pro. Still sticksup with ambient lift-up display. Many of us waits for that AOD, I think it's a major disappintment in Oneplus 7 and 7 pro.

Thanks, YRJ, but it doesn't seem like OP devs/engineers care at this point based on all the posts I've read.

And, on top of that, the cult following OP has, which was at first awesome to hear about, will defend and attack for them even if what people are asking for is an OPTION.

I'm happy to say that you have got it wrong, and I'm sure you'd be glad to hear that too.

As per the latest information on the OnePlus AMA thread, Manu J. Confirmed that OnePlus is actually working on AOD to increase power efficiency of the AOD feature.
If all goes well, you shall soon be able to enjoy the feature.

So it will be coming as an OPTION in the near future.

I don't like wearing a watch and I rather enjoy glancing at my phone (LG V30) instead of having to tap or wave over (motorola) for the time and notifications.

What I can't comprehend is why you and others care so much about what many of us are asking for as an option. It's obviously something that is important to us.
