A Nord 2 with Mediatek Dimensity 1200 SoC? That is what the leaks tell us

It's that time of the year, where leaks are flowing in one after the other. And when it's about OnePlus, the hype-train just can't stop hooooooting, aye! While much of the leaks in recent days are trying to drive us towards the OnePlus 9 series, the Nord series has been buzzing around the world with its many releases.

And now, there are some bells ringing around the successor for the top end Nord – the Nord 2 (well, let's call it that, until we know its official name!)

This time, again, the ghosts from the past are kept busy – remember all those rumors around Nord coming with Mediatek processors and finally landed with Snapdragon 765G? Now, the leaks indicate the Mediatek Dimensity 1200 processor, announced earlier this year in January.

This isn't a mid-range processor like the Qualcomm on Nord but a top-line one, coming in from Mediatek that is built on 6nm technology, supposed to be highly power efficient and supporting dual sim 5G

    PC : Mediatek

Well, that is all the leaks say, apart from the Q2 2021 launch. As always, we would suggest you take all of this with a big pinch of salt.

I, for one, can't really tell if I'd like or not like, a OnePlus phone with a Mediatek processor. How about you? Fire away your comments, based on what we've seen so far from Dimensity 1000 and 1200 announcements and performances, apart from guessing what the pricing for the new line up could be :)

As you know, I have mixed feelings about Mediatek processors. On the one hand, they offer far better bang for buck and reviews for their most recent SoCs are quite positive. On the other, the tinkerer in me remembers the issues Custom ROM development had with them. Then again, I don't think Nord really targets that type of user, so I'm not sure if that should be a concern.

I'm open to the possibility of having a phone with a high end MediaTek chip in it but it's probably academic as I'm in the US and the Nord ain't here, just its cheap siblings.

Nord-2 with Mediatek, Nord-2 Pro with Qualcomm, wouldn't be surprised with Nord-2e a hybrid of both aforementioned. Keep launching more phones!👍 I would rejoice seeing 8 series users whining like 7series' do now.

I had great expectations from OnePlus when they started with the hype for original OnePlus Nord. Too much hype. When I bought the phone in real, I felt cheated. Such poor quality phone 😵. The processor was fine, apart from that everything was very poor. Bad Cameras ( extremely bad indeed ), Bad Speaker, Poor color Saturation of Display, Google Dialer and Messages App, Poor software update ( Android 11 just arrived 👏 ). Thank god I saved 2 relatives from buying this crap.

I don't know about Nord 2, I know one thing, don't believe on OnePlus's advertisement. My image for OnePlus now is just like that of Vijay Mallya or Nirav Modi ( fraudsters ).

I hope OnePlus Nord 2 come with better specs and much attractive price. Hope it resolves all shortcomings of Nord. All the best OnePlus.

Dimensity chips seems to be great for their price. Customers are hardly bothered if it's a mediatek chip or Qualcomm's. They just need performance.

I'm not very sure if I will go for Mediatek processor...
It has a specifications which can compete, but Snapdragon sounds better. (although the motive of Nord - A cheaper performance phone can be fulfilled)

Mixed thoughts right now... Let's see what happens.

I do know from experience that mediatek chips play nice with custom roms and rooting now. A couple years ago I'd be pulling my hair out.

I like how must of you reject Mediately without anything about Dimensity, and judged base upon on it's from Mediately so it must be bad.
Mediatek used to be bad, I can't argue with this fact, but time goes, things changes, I do think that they genuinely heading to a right direction his time with Dimensity. But again that's just my opinion.
Also, I don't see anything wrong with oneplus using Dimensity on midrange phone. I think it's a win for them and also consumers since you are getting a flagship chip for migrange price.
