Same here (Oneplus 8, Android 11). I contacted my operator and they reset everything on their side without any luck.

I just put my SIM into an old phone and immediately received SMS.

The problem is the Carrier Services plugin from the Google Play store that allows RCS within the google messaging app to function. Uninstall Carrier Services and your sms will function properly again.

Oh wow you are a life saver. I just checked the carrier services and it was updated around the same time i lost my texting function. I uninstalled it and i can now send/receive texts.

How important is carrier services though? And will uninstalling it have any side effects ?

Not that important, you will just lose rcs. If you want go to apk mirror and download the previous carrier services apk and see if it doesn't cause issue. I haven't tried yet but will.

Carrier services is no longer required. I use Google Messaging with RCS on 11 with no issues without carrier services. Used to need it though (maybe Android 9?)

Thanks! Uninstalling Carrier services from the Google Play store app solved it!

Yes. It offers to use RCS automatically for carriers that support it. Telenor SE in my case. Just installed Google Messages, waited, got the offer, nothing else.

Ok, I'm on verizon, it hasn't let me turn on rcs yet without carrier services installed. I did receive a message from the Google messaging app saying that i had made too many activation attempts in one day. I'm hoping it's not bugged or something from having carrier services installed

So they have ditched their own app now?
    Verizon Message Plus app.
I guess Oneplus should support the universal profile on Verizon.
I have yet to find anything about needing carrier services but I'll continue.

I just choose to use google messaging over the stock OnePlus sms app and verizon sms app. When i had carrier services installed before and shortly after the Oxygen os 11 update it worked with rcs for a minute then carrier services broke sms. So I'm trying to get RCS to work with google messages without carrier services installed with no luck so far.

Does it say not support or not available or something?

It's stuck on setting up/trying to verify in google messages. I remember when i was on android 10 without carrier services installed the chat features wouldn't even show up as available. That's why i had carrier services installed. So clearly I don't need the Carrier Services installed on android 11 since the option is there to turn chat features on. Just won't verify.

Really not happy with one plus on this one. I have had nothing but problems since the update to android 11 with text messaging. Thank you for figuring out it was carrier services!

Thank you for figuring this out! Been back and forth with my carrier (Visible) for nearly a week trying to resolve this issue. Chat features would be great but I'll take functional SMS for now.

Dude, thank you so much for figuring this out -- that totally fixed it. Been having the same problem since Friday -- can't send texts and receive them on a 10-minute delay. I tried clearing the cache, uninstalling the app, toggling VoLTE, power cycling the phone, checking to make sure the SMSC was correct, took it to AT&T and to GeekSquad, EVERYTHING. Nothing worked except this. Been driving me nuts. Thanks again.
