AK Kernel - Is it really worth it?

    msmilkshake , Sep 29, 2015 :
When I received my Oneplus Two I rooted and clean installed Oxygen 2.1.0. After playing with it for an hour I installed AK Kernel since I read that it was better at battery and core management.

So in the past days I've read that AK Kernel was yes better than prior oxygen 2.0.2 stock kernels but the 2.1.0 kernel was as good as AK Kernel.

My question is to who have tested both.

Is it really worth it to continue with AK Kernel or stock Ox 2.1.0 kernel does the trick?

Another thing that I don't know if it's a bug or not it is the fact that I don't have any cpu governors in AK Kernel.

Have you tried stock ox 2.1 kernel or are you using AK since previous versions?

Good. Do you have cpu governors? My synapse doesn't show any...

Because the kernel is still under development. Yet, it is already much better than stock in regards to battery life and overall smoothness. Just leave it as it is, for now.

As @Gamm86, AK Kernel is still very early in development and currently does not resemble what you're used to seeing on the OPO, from a surface perspective it's not all that different from stock in terms of available tunables, synapse is only partially supported and Kernel Adiutor is being used to make the lions-share of configurations. With that said I do feel as though there is a noticeable improvement over the stock offering, but even if there wasn't, for me it's more about going along for the ride as this thing becomes what we new it to be on OPO.

Used as-is this infant AK kernel is already better than the stock. The most - and really noticeable - improvement is the idle drain. Not to mention that it configures the cpus as Qualcomm originally intended, without taking a hit in terms of heat or battery life.

Synapse doesn't support AK for OPT yet.
    Try Kernel Aduitor instead.:)

I had just the opposite experience with AK.
On stock kernel 2.1 I get around 4-5 hours of SOT.
    In AK I found
    1) The UI a bit smother than stock.
    2) All 8 cores online.
    3) idle battery drain very low. During 8 hours of sleep it would drain about 5-10%.
    4) SOT Fell below stock to about 3-4 hours.
    5) Finger print scanner seems buggier and unresponsive at times.

I have no doubt that it will get better in subsequent updates.
But for now I am sticking you stock.

I've not noticed any difference with fingerprint scanner, that said I'm using AK as it comes, nothing else being altered. Works as usual for me.

I am running AK with 2.1. The only change that I have done is changing the governor of LITTLE to consrvative and change the GPU to Performance. I did these changes because I TRULLY hate micro stutter when scrolling. Thus as I have modified the Framework.Jar for smooth scrolling + the changes on kernel side, now the phone is a beast in fluidity. I will check if there will be any impact on battery life and report back.

Yes, I did the changes using Kernel Auditor. For the Framework.jar there is a lot steps to decompile and edit the files to disable scrolling cache. I would post the edited file here but the forum is not allowing.

Please see the link to the tutorial:
