Just guessing, but maybe 90%. (You can search the forums.)
A few could have a hardware problem.

I had same problem and I read so many reviews here in this forum. I initially thought it was a software issue since a lot of us faced a similar problem and especially for me it happened after I got a software update.
But I tried pressing the slider inwards while sliding it up and it worked for me.
And then I cleaned the sliders from both ends with a pin and now it's working perfectly without having to apply the inward force.
Thanks guys for your posts. It actually helped me.

Hi i was also having the same problem with my alert slider that it would not go into silent mode but have since totally fixed the problem!
First slide alert bar down to ring then get small pin and put slight bend at end now if you look closely at top of slider there is a small gap put pin up and lightly move about and clean out. Alot of lent came out of my alert slider and since i have cleared out it has been working like new ever since hope the helps.😊

Fixed my phone today. Just clean the slider with a sharp needle or something. You will get rid of some amount of dirt. It worked for me

This is getting ridiculous, for all of you who say that cleaning the slider is a "fix", you need to read up on what a fix is, cleaning the slider is nothing but a workaround. A workaround for a problem which likely is a hardware design one caused by the company making the phone, if it were software the issue should have been resolved by now. Not saying the phone is crap because of this, but you need to call the problem out for what it is.

In addition "cleaning" the slider with a pin or w/e I imagine can have some adverse effects, think about the small amount of dirt which gets stuck inside the phone when you push the pin or such towards the edges of the slider. If this is repeated it may result in some weird issues. Now I don't know the design of this phone and slider but I imagine it's not designed for that type of "cleaning".

For me cleaning out the slider somewhat helped lessen the problem, what really did restore my ability to use the slider as intended however was to apply some more force when sliding the slider. Not how hard its slid upwards, but pressure the slider into the phone.

So you seem to think that a Mechanical part of the phone cannot get dirty.

Many have Fixed the issue by cleaning the slider with a fine dry toothbrush or wooden toothpick. Never use a meta implement as it can case damage.

Any mechanical external part can be affected by its environment, inside or outside, that's a fact if life.

Facing the same problem here. First i thought it was broken but turns out you just need to apply some pressure for it to work. Really un convinent tho.

Has either of you tried cleaning that alert slider as previously posted on this thread?
Use a toothpick or similar to clean out the groove to allow the slider to move all the way to the top position.

Try cleaning out the Slider with a fine dry toothbrush or non conductive wooden toothpick carefully.

If still jot working, bring it to an approved OnePlus service center.

Not gonna lie, I scoffed at this but then took out my knife and removed a fat piece of lint and it started working. Thanks a lot for the reality check.
