Please give us an option to install OnePlus's own messaging and dialer app. I understand your love towards Google, but believe me, OnePlus's apps are better (atleast for me). Should be given an option to install the app which we want. Don't want Google's

A lot of my work is around confidentiality, privacy and DP. Google does not allow the feature to record calls without the knowledge and consent of the other party/parties as a large number of countries do not allow it. It is unlawful.

Whilst you may think your particular phone experience is the only one that matters Google, a multinational company with markets all over the world, will take the path of least resistance and of least risk. That means you're not going to get the bespoke experience some of you think you are entitled to and you're not going to be able to record people without their knowledge and consent. You bought an Android phone. It is powered by Google. Accept it and move on or choose another OS.

I've seen a lot of seemingly benign reasons why it's beneficial to some users and so a quick explanation as to why you're going to be recording to the other party in the call when the notification plays should mean you have no problem. If you are concerned the other party is hearing that notification that likely means you know they may not be ok with you recording them, which means you shouldn't be considering recording it in the first place.

Apparently so. I was going to try and explain the legalities, the absolute PITA compliance is across so many jurisdictions and the commercial decision Google's made etc., even started typing a paragraph about lawfulness, intended use and the recording itself and gave up. Apparently not everyone is concerned with ethical call recording. Meh.. [e]1f604[/e]

I can see why auto call recording might be a useful feature eg: you're using your phone for work purposes and your employer or you need to keep a original record of what was said. So something that Google should consider implementing to stop the hassle of manually doing it each time.

What I don't get, as others have mentioned in the thread, is why it is imperative that the other party not be notified. It would seem, if you are using the work example above for example, that it wouldn't be a problem for them to be notified.

Good thing you didn’t, it would have been quite some work that just few would have read (I’m sure the ones asking for this feature wouldn’t have been amongst them).

it would in some countries but as stated by @recl, so many different laws in so many different countries, The EU has it’s GDPR, they US has different rules for a lot of states, it’s like any country has separate rules. Like in the EU, it’s not just the consent that has to be given but also What happens with the data afterwards like data protection, data retention, right to access, right to be forgotten.

that’s why Google implemented this, the way they did now, so manual, not automatic as not all calls need to be recorded.

Because the counter part would hang up? This question is asked many times, never answered though.

Unlikely as it presents a minefield, particularly in Europe. The bar for valid consent was raised much higher with GDPR and tacit consent is no longer enough.

For example, in that work scenario, you're on the phone with a client and work chat over (which in itself may be commercially sensitive) they talk about their mental health during Covid. Boom, you have now gathered and are in possession of personal data... not only that, sensitive personal data. You are now 'processing' and all the joys that come with it.

Now say you go down the pub and your phone is nicked. Data breach. ICO or relevant country's DPA issue your company with a nice fine. Claimant hits your company with a data breach claim. Claimant eyes up the pesky app that started it all in the first place

It's not worth the risk for the app creator/owner, commercial or reputational. Not when you can push the responsibility on to the caller with a distinct action to activate the feature and then cover your *** even more with an automated notification.

Yes the call recording should be private. It should not allow the person to listen if the call recording has been started or ended. Do remove that from Dialler

If you live in India (and possibly some other countries too) Google Phone should provide voice recording. I haven't been able to find a list of supported countries.
Google has a privacy policy that makes both parties of the phone call know when the recording takes place. If this is not what you want I really doubt Oneplus can do anything about it. Google desides the recording feature in this case.

I have Nord mobile. It's totally superb. But I am getting one issue. Don't know what is it. Sometimes it stops it's work and red and white dots will be revolving about nearly half an hour. At last it shows something like "dump crash file failed". What is this?? Suggest me how to come out of it??
