ALTERNATIVES TO THE INVITE SYSTEM

I know not many people may agree with the concept of the Oneplus invite system, so I challange you to come up with a better system.

I created this thread so you can offer your great suggestions, and if they're good enough, hopefully OP will take notice.

My idea is that forum members get first priority, or it works as a ticket system, you get a virtual ticket assigned to your email so it works as a first come, first serve basis so the people who got a ticket first get a unique link through their email to order from, insuring availibility.

    Leave your great suggestions below!

The invite system may work like this in some ways. And then you will get an invite on here and you can invite 1 or 2 people.

Hmm.. we really don't know anything about the invites; the process, the supply chain etc. etc.

My biggest concern is about who gets the invite. I just hope everyone has a fair shot, and not in a form of a draw.

I agree, yes the forum members should get the invites at least.

Not a bad idea but in all reality this phone won't likely be available until mid May. I sure hope they prove me wrong though.

I hate the first come, first serve way. It gives an unfair disadvantage to those who could be working or sleeping during the start of the preorders. I'm still going for the ticket system for now, it's not all that bad.

Forum members should get an invite. Makes you wonder how few of these will be available from the onset, supply chain issues?

I think each preorder/order period should be hosted at different times for each launch country, based on demand of that country. They should have a quick forum headcount of the amount of people who actually wanna buy from that country so they get a better idea of demand, making the +1 more readily available.

Personally I think preorder+deposit is fine. That way they know roughly how many to manufacture and at least customers would know they will get within a certain timescale. Kinda boring though:)

How long does it take to manufacture a batch of phones anyway, say 10,000?

I'm not sure what form of manufacturing OP will employ, but for perspective, one foxconn factory for apple makes roughly 1200 iPhones per hour with manual labour, (keep in mind that that is with near-sweatshop conditions) in an assembly line, something as delicate phones, there are roughly ~3800 phones per hour made, so it can take anywhere bettween 8-2:15 hours

I just checked and One Plus has just under 8,500 followers on Google+, plus another 10K on the Forum. They must be able to invite those two groups; not everyone of us can or will buy the OPO.

If you pre-order you pay for the item upfront and then it ships when available. Normal course of action for new technology, golf equipment, cars, etc. In the US.

I would pay for it now if pre-order was an option. Then I could get back to work rather than checking throughout the day to see if I missed some opportunity posted by OP.

Agreed forum first. We are driving traffic, then social network followers. Maybe half of all those will order. Then give them an invite to use.

People won't be happy unless there's a OnePlus One for every one of us. I don't think there is an alternative, really, because many people will be left out no matter what system is put in place.

I'm not for a pre-order even with an affordable phone price of $400. We need to see the product and it would be helpful for a couple to hit trusted sources first; CNET, The Verge, etc. OP has told us great specs and CM is a great OS. However, OP has no track record. Are we all assuming it will have Oppo or Xiaomi build quality and that CM is a fully ready for prime time OS? I need a little bit more before dropping $400 for a blind pre order.

Wow, that many! So it really is just about money and risk then as opposed to manufacturing capacity (possibly also component shortages?)
