    Hi friends,

    We just unveiled the newest members of the OnePlus family – OnePlus Nord and the new true wireless OnePlus Buds – in our first-ever online AR launch event. We couldn't be more excited!

    Before the launch, we invited @Shawn L. to talk about smooth experience, @Simon Liu. to share more about the cameras, @Hope L. to introduce the design of OnePlus Nord, and @Pete to give you a sneak peek of the OnePlus Buds.

    Share some of my thoughts here, the camera quality is not equivalent to megapixels, we deliver the best of what we do to the customers. We've tuned the camera on the 8 and it outperformed any other options we have in the pocket~

    No, aptx/aptx hd is mainly for headphones with Qualcomm chips. This time after comprehensive evaluation, we chose BES chip, with lower power consumption, connection stability and low latency can also be better. Although it does not support aptx/atpx hd, we've done many rounds of tuning to ensure great audio quality.

    Good question!

    OnePlus Buds' earphones have an ipx4 rating - like most earphones on the market, they are waterproof but not sweat-proof. To increase the level of water and sweat resistance of the earphones, we would need to change the components and overall structure, which would greatly impact the audio quality. The OnePlus Buds are designed to be a great set of everyday TWS, which is why we haven’t made the changes mentioned.

    We do not recommend doing strenuous exercises and activities while wearing the OnePlus Buds. Excessive sweating may result in damage to the earphones. If you're looking for earphones that you can use while playing sports, we recommend that you purchase professional sporting earphones.

    We call the color Nord Blue. Our inspiration for it comes from the blue skies of the North (The Nordics). We love the color -it feels fresh and fits nicely in with the glass material of the phone. Regarding the red charging cable, if you know what RCC stands for, you'll get the answer. (RCC stands for Red Cable Club) Btw, changing the color of the cable is a good idea.;););););)

    We did not design replaceable earplugs. In the early stage, we tried to design earplugs, but the experience was not ideal after wearing tests, so we finally used pure plastic earbuds.

    In terms of preventing loss, we have “find device” function. After losing earphones, click the find device on the phone, the earphones will emit sound, and you can find it by sound. If the earphones has been disconnected and cannot make a sound, you can also check the location of the last use of the device through the mobile phone

    This project made our entire project team members grow a lot. Because it is a totally new product, our team has been making it for almost two years, and the product definition has been overturned many times before it is finally determined. After three months of user research, we finally locked the three functional differences of battery life, fast charging and call noise reduction, and achieved these three functions to the top level. We also have encountered many technical challenges in terms of technology implementation, product interaction and software. The logic of TWS is more complicated than ordinary earphones. It took several months let our entire team started from 0 and explored while learning. At that time our whole team stayed up all night to solve problems almost every day. Finally the problems are solved, our whole team is very fulfilled.

    Regardless of me or the whole team, we are very honored to be a member of the ONEPLUS BUDS project team.

    The most difficult part was to ensure we delivered a fast & smooth that didn't compromise the OnePlus standard at a more affordable price. Users' definition of a fast & smooth experience escalates every day. It's not enough to be as fast and smooth as we were last year - we need to keep pushing ourselves to take things to the next level. That is really challenging. Internally, we were actually competing with each other to see how many optimizations could be raised/bugs could be found on a daily basis~

    Very good question, but unfortunately we do not support, we currently do not support single-ear pairing with a single device. Although our earphones uses binaural simultaneous bluetooth transmission mode, there is still a difference between the main ear and the slave ear. If single-ear pairing with a single device is supported, it will cause the phenomenon of dual main ears. If users want to connect two earbuds to the same device after that, it may cause or crash. User need to reset the earphones or re-pair each time if two earbuds are connected to different devices. Considering that this scenario is less likely to occur, we still hope to ensure smooth experience for the two earbuds listening first

    Indeed. There's a much higher likelihood for “accidents" to happen during a live-stream. Sever/app/network conditions all need to take into consideration. There was so much preparation involved, from the design draft and video content to copywriting and content review - we've done pretty much everything possible to ensure a remarkable launch.

    Thanks for your questions.

    The reason why our first earphone is half-in-ear is because we hope that our first tws can become a more suitable earphones for most people to wear for a long time. We tried samples with different sizes of silicone earplugs, but the results are not satisfactory in ergonomics test, most users feel ear pain after wearing the earphones with silicone earplugs and they chose the half-in-ear shape. Also that's why we chose it.

    And we have also considered make half-in-ear active noise reduction, but because everyone has different ear shapes (including the size of the left and right ears of the same person), the half-in-ear form of noise reduction may cause users to feel that there are two ears. The sound pressure will be different (including in-ear earphones also have this problem, but better), it is easy to cause headaches after wearing for a long time. Considering that this experience does not meet our requirements, we did not add this function to this generation of products.

    The logic of planning this product line is not from this perspective, so I couldn't say that "Sandwiched" standard series becomes obsolete. And the point we really consider is to meet the needs of users. It's that simple.

    Interesting question.

    Teamwork is really important, and this time around the coronavirus situation made it a lot more difficult. Instead of being in the same physical space, we had to rely heavily on online communication tools for the majority of this project. And for a new project team that haven't work together before, we quickly realized what a luxury it is to be able to share the same location as your team. But hey, we overcame that... :)

    To ensure a flagship-level camera experience, we've incorporated OIS - this will really make a difference for night photography. We also have a 90Hz AMOLED display, something that's rarely seen in this price segment, to ensure a smooth visual experience. We also bring our favorate Oxygen OS with 3 years security update and 2 years of software updates, similar to our flagship products.

    We originally challenged Akis to come up with a back up plan in case coronavirus meant that we couldn't do a regular launch, and AR was what he came up with. Turns out, it's better than the real thing.

    For me, The visit to India ofc. The one-on-ones, focus groups with my team, visiting our own stores and stores of other brands. It was enlightening and also validated our product positioning. It was a great experience!

    To be honest, shooting at 4K 60fps is very power consuming, which is why we've not included it on our rear camera.

    The answer is, from our users, we've been away from this segment for long. But everyday when I check forum/twitter/reddit/call center history even emails, all the posts about how this sort of product is required to drive me there. Never feel that close to a product. BTW, I do have alts here, there is just you and my alts in this forum~

    At the beginning of the product concept stage, we made changes here and there. By this time, we've already finished all the stack-ups and completed some initial verifications on performance etc. But when conducting the second round of our design survey, we found that our design was a bit too avant-garde, so we decided to make some more changes. Originally we meant to launch in mid-July, but we had to slightly delay our launch

We know many of our users have wanted a more affordable product for some time, and with recent technological advancements, we are finally able to bring a more accessible OnePlus device without compromising our standards. We have chosen 2 colours - a more distinct blue colour for those who want to stand out, and a classical gray.
