    [Not Adopted]

    Hello Sach716, thanks for taking the time to share your idea with us. Regarding the design branding, we’re glad to tell our Community that we’re currently revamping our visual language on the upcoming OxygenOS version and will re-consider the dark mode interface altogether.

    We fully appreciate why you’d suggest this, as true black has a long history. However, there’re a few points we’d like to highlight:

    1.Readability: Our philosophy is to design for all, accommodating regular dark theme users (such as those with low vision), by meeting Material Design guidelines and our system’s accessibility color contrast standards. Darkening UI elements with grey colors, rather than true black, helps express elevation and space in an environment with a wider depth range. In other words, this helps you navigate your phone more easily even in a dark theme. Plus, resorting to true black in dark environments might result in eye strain.

    2.Screen properties: Due to the nature of OLED screen, it takes some time for a pixel to light up from complete dark. Hence, when switching from pure black to some other interfaces, you may encounter display latency or screen ghosting. We want to minimize the possible impact and thus are prudent about the so-called true black.

    3.Power conservation: Myths have it that only true black can save your phone juice. That’s actually not the case for the OLED screen on which any darker color schemes will improve the battery life. You may refer to an experiment done by a third party here: https://www.xda-developers.com/amoled-black-vs-gray-dark-mode/

    Evaluating the reasons above, we will not consider True Black as an option for now. But if we see a huge desire within the Community, we are always happy to reconsider, so do keep sharing your idea with other Community members to gain more votes for it.

    I'd love to see this. It's such a simple feature and a real waste of an AMOLED. You can achieve this with a Magisk module but not everybody bothers to do that.

    If it was truly black, you would get a lot AMOLED smearing, which looks worse than the gray they currently have.

    What benefits does true black have over dark grey?

    Have you used true black on amoled before? had a true black theme on my op5 using the substratum theme engine, it looked like complete trash... (disclaimer, that was a phone from 2015... displays has probably gotten better now)

    Yes, that's why I think they should bring amoled black... But let the user choose between black/dark :)

    @Gary C.
    Thank you for replying and having a thought about this feature ; I posted it because it was a feature a lot of people asked for. However i am also happy with the current scheme of colors but if OnePlus considers to make some visual changes in the current theme making it look more classy and impressive then I will be glad.My concern is not about saving battery or making pixels completely off but it's just a visual preference that community members support.
    Once again thank you for replying my idea

    I prefer the non-black dark modes myself. What about the dark mode in the Community app and the settings though? I guess I haven't checked the exact colour, but it looks pretty black.

    Sir, I would really like to request OnePlus to give true dark in OnePlus 7 pro, as an option upti the user, as it is already there in op8 and 7T, if someone feels strain on eyes they can switch to dark grey!

    i really dont wanna root my phone just for this silly reason. thank you.
