Destiny PA , via OnePlus 9 Pro , Jan 27, 2022 : What permission do I need to give live caption to work? It's not in the list.
Aaron2017 , Jan 27, 2022 : Yes, there seems to be a bug with the permission about that. If you would like to use it, a workaround is going to settings>apps>app management>3 dots in the top right corner>show system>Android system intelligence and uninstall the updates for that app. You will get the live caption options the way the were before the update and you should be able to enable them without a problem. You will have to go to the play store to disable auto-update for the Android system intelligence app, otherwise it'll update it again and you can't use them anymore. Not ideal but it's a way to use it until OnePlus fixes the bug
Swejuggalo , Jan 27, 2022 : To me it seems like once the permission is granted upgrading it again is no problem. Has it failed again for some?
Aaron2017 , Jan 27, 2022 : Oh really? I don't know how it is for others, i only tried it on my phone before posting it. But once i installed the update again i was back at the same grant permission page i was before i uninstalled those updates, having to uninstall again to get it to work. It's fine for you after updating the app again?
Swejuggalo , Jan 27, 2022 : I'll double check. Seems it has reverted here too. Really wierd update if it removes already granted permissions. I'll see if some adb fix exists later.
Swejuggalo , Jan 27, 2022 : Will try this after some sleep 😉 pm grant com.google.android.as android.permission.SYSTEM_APPLICATION_OVERLAY
Aaron2017 , Jan 27, 2022 : Ah, so you do sleep? 😉 Alright, i don't use live caption but it would be good to know for others who do use it, at least until OP fixes it
