I'm not saying you are wrong - I don't have any more information to the contrary and this is all just speculation. But you may have missed the point of what I said, which was that the open beta program clearly isn't necessary to development of OOS, otherwise there would be no way for Oneplus to develop us a Pie ROM for the 3/3T without it. I don't believe that there will be a repeated pattern of one device falling out of support cycle after 2 years, just as another comes in, and with the intermediate device owners experiencing the same service/beta programs etc.

It may be that the program came to an end for the 3/3T because the devices are right at the end of their support cycle. Or, as I stated in my original post, it may be because, as the original post on this thread stated:

If Google have made development of Android Pie easier, then that might well negate any need of an open beta program across all devices.

The open beta program was kind of fun for me - someone who has always tried out custom (but stable) roms and enjoyed being part of the testing process. But on the whole I'd say that it was just part of Oneplus' marketing. Something to hold up for their "Created Together With Our Fans" tagline. If you ever read the open beta threads they were ram-jam-packed with people who had no clue what they had got themselves into - complaining about bugs, demanding fixes, asking for updates etc. There is no way that is sustainable with the growing numbers of Oneplus sales. The bubble will burst eventually, if not during the 5/5T support cycle, then soon.

When it's ready, OnePlus rarely give detailed release timetables.

    It was not confirmed.

However, please have in mind that the OnePlus 5T and the OnePlus 5 will get the update before the OnePlus 3T and 3.
