I can second this. My phone is still going strong after 3 years. The only thing that underperforms is the battery, but it can still last me a full day while keeping gaming to a minimum.

I can third this. Don't even have any battery drainage issues. It can easily last me 3-4 days if I don't use it much. Even after a day of very intense usage, I always have at least 40+% remaining.

at this point, I'm just waiting for a new promotion to buy a new phone. I don't really want a new update, just want it to cruise smoothly to its end. Sadly I missed the Christmas deals so I'm gonna wait for the 8 release to get a super cheap 7pro or hop onto the Huawei meta.

Be careful about EMUI, not all is smooth sailing with that OS. You may either love it or hate it, there's no in-between. I, for one, got myself an Honor Play one year ago as upgrade to my 3T but I couldn't take it's EMUI software and ended up buying a 6T.

Install the latest 9.0.6 build, and that will give you the latest official security patches. Bear in mind your device is EOL so any further security patches will not be provided by OnePlus, the only way to obtain them will be to flash a supported custom rom

    ?

Are you posting through a time portal? Android P for the OnePlus has been released, so this no longer counts as news.

Problems with games are, invariably, best dealt with by the games developers. Why not contact the developers of your favourite games and ask them to optimise them for your four year old device? and see where that gets you.
