    Hey community,

We first started the discussion on OxygenOS 12 back in April, when we hosted Theme Store OEF. Since then, we've been on a rollercoaster ride, as OnePlus started its 2.0 era, with refreshes happening to product strategies and even departments. Starting from October, we gradually released OxygenOS 12 to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro users as a Beta update, with the official release starting its rollout out in December. We'll also continue to gradually roll out to other older devices so that they too can enjoy OxygenOS 12.

A month ago, we've cooked OxygenOS 12 FAQ with some answers to some frequently asked questions we collected from you, and also shared the Explore More on OxygenOS 12 and A Peek Inside OxygenOS 12 threads, for a bit more information on the new features. From the thousands of replies in the OTA announcement, we know you still have lots of questions about OxygenOS 12 in you, especially after using it for a while. This is why it feels like the perfect timing to host an AMA, so that you can share your questions with the people behind the product.

Please do not repeatedly post "Where is the update for the device X?". The only official statement about this matter has been shared here. Any such questions will be removed from this thread to keep it clean.

This is the Community's chance to ask meaningful questions about product strategy, future roadmap, and other insights into the present and future of OxygenOS. Make use of it.

Hello @Linkin1994 ! Thank you for the question. The 5x5 drawer will not be restored for the moment. But we've noticed that there are some voices about drawer from the community, and currently we're working on it and trying to make the app drawer more personalized and convenient.

Hi @AlienEye ! I am honoured that you are interested in Shelf. Sure, Shelf will have more useful widgets and features, and we are already working to make it happen. Regarding the features you mentioned, they will be taken into consideration. But to keep convenience and effectiveness of Shelf, we need to think carefully about which functions are more suitable to put in Shelf. So it will take some time to plan and we need additional input from you guys and the market.

@Tobikage That’s a good question! My answer for that is user feedback is the most important decision-making factor for the development of OxygenOS. We are planning to enhance customization and add more features to our future product. So feel free to share your opinions and tell us what specific features you wanted! We are glad to witness the growth of OxygenOS with you.

@Aditya_4 Thank you for your love! The design of Shelf was a long process. Initially, we only tended to increase the size of some cards. But when the actual demo came out, we were not satisfied with it. In order to make Shelf more consistent with our new re-design concept, we redesigned it. Most of the cards and animations were redeveloped. Creative data visualization was added. Besides, through internal testing, we got a lot of users’ feedback and had a further adjustment. So now you can see our clear and beautiful Shelf!

Hi, @Technical SuranaJi ! I would love to share a bit about my own experiences during the development of OxygenOS 12. As you probably know, product development is a sweet and "sour" process.
For us, the most challenging thing is to find out what features can truly solve users' problems and how to bring a better experience to you guys. For example, when we modified Canvas AOD, numerous experiments were held to improve its precision. After getting to Canvas AOD 2.0's first version, we received users' feedback and advice from OEF (Open Ears Forum), CBT (Closed Beta Test), and Community to improve it. This led to even more iteration, to ensure the end result matched the expectations. Thankfully, it did. After the co-creation process, I'm happy to share that users at OEF score 4.8 out of 5 product satisfaction and a 88 percentage of willingness to use. As you can see there are now more effects and brush choices in Canvas AOD 2.0, thanks to your feedback, and we'll continue to iterate based on this logic, as always.

Hello, @TheMittalUT Glad that you like these new features in OxygenOS 12. Material You is a great UI idea. And it will be a vital reference for future OnePlus UI design. Based on our own design philosophy, we will keep our eye out for new UI designs as well. Personalisation and aesthetics are always the initial factors we consider. Stay tuned!

@H1637696268540 Well, the transparent dock is a convenient and efficient feature indeed, but we consider this feature to be more suitable for large-screen devices. As of now, we don’t have a plan to add it to OxygenOS.

Hello, @philos64 . Third party photography apps are installable as they always have been. If you're asking about access to the secondary cameras, we have addressed that question here already.

"Addressing the specific concern that Google Camera ports are not able to access to the Ultra HD 48M / AUX camera, we're already working on this and it will be fixed soon in the upcoming version."

Hi, @haildarkseid ! Great question! First and foremost, I would like our users to know that fast and smooth performance is always our top goal. Regarding adding features, we will do so while carefully considering the market and users feedback, as long as it does not deter us from that goal.

@Z1640763078726 Appreciate your question. In fact, we do have a double-tap gesture to help users turn on their phones conveniently in OxygenOS 12. I don't have enough clarity about the situation you are facing. So please provide us with more details of the situations while using the wake-up gesture so that we can optimize our functions properly.

@SimoneLD Good advice! We also agree that the OnePlus app drawer could be more personalizable. We will continue to optimize it and add more options. And of course, the launcher will be updated as well. We look forward to having greater innovations in the launcher and you guys’ suggestions are the greatest asset and guide for that path. Welcome to share them with us!

What about a manually battery system for optimised charging??

We can control the time that finishes the charging or just the percentage of the battery capacity to be adjustable all the time...

    Thank you ✌️

Thanks for the opportunity, @Crystal Z.

My question if for @ZENG XI

Oxygen OS has come a long way from since it when first debuted on the OnePlus 2. While things were great until OOS11, OnePlus decided to shake things up with a massive design overhaul. Today, as the thin line between OOS and Color OS is slowly fading, how do you plan on keeping the two skins visually distinct?

How much of a deviation from pure ColorOS is OnePlus willing to allow in the future based on feedback from OxygenOS users who prefer what OxygenOS has / had prior to the merger in terms of apps and features etc ?

Hi @Gary C. I'm just curious as a product person what did you weigh up in deciding on what to include or not in oxygen 12 vs oxygen 11? Was there any thought process or let's he honest did the team just take Color OS and slap a few oxygen os things as an after thought.
A simple example why have you removed the shot on OnePlus wallpaper? I know it's a simple thing and there lot more crucial bugs and issues but this seems an odd choice to remove. It has been a cornerstone of OnePlus for a while now and the community and helps promote the cameras etc. Removing it from oxygen os 12 seems like a decision from people and management who don't truly care for the brand anymore and just care of sales. Who don't even know what the brand is anymore. said:
Was there a focus group and user research that said this wasn't used perhaps? Or was there bigger management decision? Maybe you are going to replace it with something better in the future?
    Thanks

@Gary C. Why did you guys remove the OnePlus scout from the app drawer and incorporated it in the shelf?
To access the shelf, one needs to swipe down from top right. This is very trouble some for right handed users as it hinders the quick settings. Will there be option to get the shelf from top left corner?

Why the OxygenOS 12 rollout is far from perfect to just even the two devices 9 Pro & 9? The Beta 1 was released on October 5, 2021, and as a avid community member I see multiple threads created on a daily basis not happy with the experience. The Beta as well Stable update threads are full with questions.

I shall be happy if you share some insights to it. :)

My question at this point is only regarding the launcher ...
Can we get back to oos11 UI and aspect of the launcher, but keeping the OOS12 extras?
Or at least, give us two things back ...
1 - five columns on drawer (or more if we can choose)
2 - individual icon setting back on drawer again

Thanks for the opportunity once again
