Anyone experiencing a weird dim light on the screen of the OnePlus 8? via OnePlus 8

    Hello everyone. Hope everyone is well and keeping safe.

    So getting straight to the point. I have a Oneplus 8 and I absolutely love it, but there's something which is irritating me.

    On grey/blue backgrounds, when the screen is idle for a few seconds, the screen brightness dims a little.

    I'm coming from the OnePlus 7 and have not faced this issue.

    I can't put to words exactly what I want to say. Please refer to the link and hopefully it should be self explanatory.

    Edit 1) This doesn't always happen. It's quite irregular.

    Edit 2) Switching from 90Hz to 60hz and then back to 90Hz does fix the “issue” - will check how long it lasts.

    Edit 3) I was contacted by the team to reproduce the issue and send back logs, but I have not been able to reproduce the issue since I switched from 90Hz to 60hz and then back to 90Hz.

    yes I know exactly what you mean . it's been driving me crazy too . the brightness changes by itself on grey backgrounds like Gmail . I can see it changing Brightness by itself without auto brightness enabled . I have two OnePlus 8 phones and they both do it

    This problem still isn't fixed.
    You can make the issue reappear by rebooting the phone.

    Can Oneplus please fix this?

    Yeah, i am facing the same issue. noticed it mostly with apps having grey background, such as Gmail, play store, inshorts etc. the colour turns from grey to almost black. Since this issue hasn't been fixed since May and we have had multiple updates rollout i request @SoniaB to please escalate this.

    It also looks like the screen resolution is being affected too. Closest comparison is like using 800 x 600 resolution option on a monitor supporting 1920 X 1080. Big blotchy and ugly.

    It was shocking for me the 1st time it happened. I had to make sure my display settings didn't get messed up.

    Only happens to me in low lighting and adaptive lighting goes to lowest point. Most noticable with test heavy app like news.

    Also, adaptive lighting flickers to the brightest in dark setting quite often. Almost blinds you.

    The greys and the blues gets changed after 3 to 4 seconds of not touching the phone. Mostly in apps like gmail, playstore, Instagram etc. Please fix this as soon as possible.

    Actually this is probably some kind of content adaptive lighting change that changes screen colors to save some battery

    It's probably the same as the display tint. That issue happens due to an SW gamma value miscalibration and it's not just a problem on oneplus, many manufacturers were affected by it before

    Both these issues are definitely in software and oneplus will provide a fix if you submit feedback to them however from my experience these issues need a while to be resolved

    I've observed this issue multiple times, I believe it has something to do with software layer calibration as I'm unable to reproduce it when I set my phone to Natural (P3) instead of the Vibrant mode it ships by default.
    And yes, the 90 Hz to 60 Hz and back also fixes it temporarily for me. I reported this a long time back was ofc, met with outdated instructions and no resolution.

    Had same problem on my previous Oneplus 8. Bought 8 pro month ago and no such problem. Obviously software issue. Turn from 90hz to 60hz and back and that solve the problem temporarily. Sometimes 5 days without issue sometimes 4 times a day. Totally random.

    Got my Nord on Monday - experiencing this issue. Switching from 90 to 60Hz doesn't resolve it. I'm seeing colour brightness drop and the gamut range reduces. It's very irritating. I've come from using Honor and iPhones before that. This is the first time I've encountered a problem like this. It's disappointing to see it's an ongoing issue.

    Wide Gamut with the slider towards the blue end of the spectrum gives the best result.

    I hope OP can fix this sooner rather than later, as it's spoiling what would otherwise be a good experience.
