I used to live around there. you're quite far out of the centre where the cool things are. I would definitely get an idea of the underground if you want to go into the city, if you do get into trouble people who work at the stations will help you.

if you want to go explore in the city there's loads of free museums and sights to see. I'm sure there's many websites which tell you the best things to see in London :)

I fly out on the 15th. As others have asked, what do you like to do / what are you interested in seeing? I've been here for 20 years and have barely seen any of the touristy stuff, but there's no shortage of it if that's what tickles you

Speaking of what tickles you, please don't go anywhere near Soho.

Heathrow is a wasteland, other than a couple of 'scenic' riverside villages nearby which are good for a nice lunch and not much else. Problem is, they look really close on the map but it would take you forever to get there so forget all that and drag yourself into town.

The Piccadilly Line will get you to the West End in under an hour, you could shave ~15 mins off that on the Heathrow Express but it's not worth the money or the hassle. Once you're there you're in walking distance of the Queen's house / Piccadilly Circus / all the usual tourist selfie spots.

Consider a boat trip up / down the Thames if you just want to get a lot of (grey) pictures of stuff. If you do, bring a hat & scarf. Actually, bring a hat & scarf anyway.

Buy yourself an Oyster Card, you can get unlimited travel on tube & buses for a capped daily amount. Contactless probably works for that as well, never tried it.

    Familiarise yourself with

    https://tfl.gov.uk/maps/track/tube
    https://tfl.gov.uk/plan-a-journey/

There's probably an app for those, if you prefer that sort of thing.

Food - we literally have everything. Depending on your tastes / budget I could probably come up with a suggestion or two. Unless you're a vegetarian, then you're on your own.

Beer - shame you ruled that out, I could definitely make a suggestion or two.
