[Submitted] Auto ISO and Shutter depend on Incorrect Histogram during preview. Real Histogram is different.

RAW image comes out overexposed than preview. Bug can be verified by looking at histogram of preview and histogram of RAW capture. Bug renders histogram useless for PRO mode, since histogram displayed is mismatched to result.
This bug degrades image by forcing incorrect ISO and Shutter on auto.
Root cause is ISP manipulating the image preview, upon which ISO, shutter is based.
ISO, Shutter should be based on RAW sensor data. Correct exposure is first step to high quality results.

screenshot.jpeg Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 6.27.36 PM.png As you can see the histogram on result is showing higher exposure than histogram of Viewfinder/Preview

If you look at the left portion of the histograms (which represent dark areas) the peaks are much higher in preview than peaks in actual shot. It means preview has much more darkness than actual shot.

The same difference is visible to the eye as well.

Correct camera implementation should have a similar histogram in both places.

This seems to be caused by Image Signal Processing being performed on the preview.
THE ISP MAKES THE VIEWFINDER LOOK PUNCHY
However ISO and Shutter should depend on ORIGINAL sensor data, NOT on a PUNCHY preview. By basing Auto settings on PUNCHY preview, OP6 degrades Image Quality across the board, due to need of boosted ISO, to cancel out the PUNCH. Its a Catch 22 situation.

    hassan987 , Jun 23, 2018 :
    1) ISP creates a PUNCHY Preview
    2) Shutter and ISO get boosted according to the high-contrast preview
    3) The resulting washed-out image is then again "fixed" by the ISP by enhancing contrast, saturation, and darkening (darkening is recorded in JPG EXIF data) however RAW is left unprocessed and visibly overexposed "washed out" compared to preview.

This situation holds back the true capability of the camera sensor by using higher ISO than needed to take a bright exposure, followed by noise reduction and darkening to "fix" it.

None of the other phones I own have this problem and for this reason OP6 always uses higher ISO indoors than all my other phones. It is because the auto settings are based on faulty input.

Same issue in OnePlus 5T (Camera version V2.5.3). Currently open beta 10 is available for 5T with camera clarity improvements, I am not a beta user(will post the issue under the beta test thread and update here whether same issue is present in beta or is fixed). Sample photos are attached.

Hope something will be done to address this issue, and hope ISO 50 option can be introduced as well.

Please watch the youtube video portion from 6:35 - 7:25.

And even in the portion 5:57 onwards, same problems are discussed of excessive noise and unnecessarily high ISO.

DNG is Adobe used raw format, Android would do RAW to DNG convert and compress the camera metadata at the same time. DNG preview is made by photography editor software like Adobe lightroom and this software would processing the preview with Metadata, this is totally different to camera viewfinder. DNG RAW's preview is made by 3 part software not camera producer. So, that must different to camera view finder, but the RAW output for camera view finder and DNG is the same without doubt. DNG RAW's main spirit is to provide a way for user to editor their own image quality, i think you can adjust gamma and find a familiar brightness as camera view finder if that what you want.

DNG is widely used by renowned manufacturers of phones as well as dSLR cameras. No other company has this problem. This issue is only there in One Plus. One plus should fix it if they want to offer good camera. Even xiaomi, ZUK, huawei etc. don't have this problem which are also cheap brands.

I also see the same problem on IPX and Pixel2 with light room CC capturing DNG. I think this issue is due to Adobe. However, i like original JPEG, Oneplus do really good job on image quality. Hope they can choose better image sensor, like Samsung.

Image sensor on OnePlus 6 is top quality. The problem is with the exposure software.

Does anybody know what it means for a bug/feature request to be "submitted to Jira"?

I haven't seen this on the Pixel, not the 100s of photos I've taken on the camera.
