evolution of Camera technology has already taken smartphone photography to a different level. Pop up & flip cameras were designed to provide complete screen for display, but it has it's own disadvantages. Waterdrop design saves space but looks ugly to many ( I have a OP7T with waterdrop design [e]1f61c[/e]). Punch hole is the latest, lots of advantages over disadvantages. Someone in the design room must be thinking about No front camera/backside display ( like a parking camera). Every new technology brings something to ease out things; of course with some additional 🤑💵💸

Pop-up camera is EASILY the best option in my opinion... My OnePlus 7 Pro pop-up is extremely fast and face unlocks speed matches and even beats some other competitors currently out there. Having a pop-up camera allows the display to have absolutely NO interruptions and distractions, allowing for a real FULL-SCREEN experience for us users... The pop-up also provides extreme security, however, the only issue I see is that there is always a possibility that it could break since it is a mechanical piece of machinery in the phone, however, OnePlus had stated that it can withstand up to 300,000 pop-up's in its lifetime, and I don't use the pop-up camera that much (Except for face unlock when fingerprint fails) which means my 7 Pro should have a LONG pop-up camera life :)

i prefer the notch, as less screen is blacked out on apps like Netflix, OnePlus 8 series loses too much screen real estate while hiding the hole punch. notch being in the centre is usually unused space anyway

nice thread Tony and JasonB. I like how you guys described holding the phone in landscape and the hole punch position. I'm of mixed feelings... As I tend to hold my phone in portrait orientation it would be seen often. I was pleasantly surprised about the pop up camera when I saw and held the 7 pro. Plus it is a gorgeous screen. I don't use face unlock for security reasons. And My uses have changed during these crazy times that I think the pop up camera could get in the way while video chatting... Especially when it is leaned up against something and it slides down. Albeit it may be minimal.

I dislike pop-up camera due to all "cons".

I read somewhere there is a limited times use (pop in-pop out).

I prefer pop-up camera, because I don't take much selfies. Moreover, having a full screen with no holes, notches at all is one of the most innovative features that oneplus 7 pro and 7t pro devices introduced. Sad to see that this feature is missing from the Oneplus 8 pro device [e]1f614[/e]

pop up. that's the ONLY reason I upgraded to OnePlus 7T Pro, instead of 8 Pro. Like my screen camera less ))))

Pop Up takes the win for me, by a long shot. I still consider face unlock to be blazing fast on my OP7 Pro, and am not going to whine for a few milliseconds lost.
The mechanism has proven to be long lasting & reliable, and I trust it completely.
Finally, THAT SCREEEEN [e]1f60d[/e][e]2764[/e]️ A notch or a punch hole is an insult to the screen imo

It's "limited" to about 300 000 pop ups, witch means that you would have to use it 150 times PER DAY for 5 YEARS for it to stop working. For me, there are no cons.
