Be Wary of Huawei

    Loveit, Jul 18, 2019 :
I've mentioned it once or twice before but nowhere near enough actually.

They treat their UK customers like crap with updates. I bought an unlocked phone from Carphone Warehouse last April (P20 Pro) on release. Seems like they done a deal with carriers to go American Style.

I'm stuck on a early Pie build which is fine apart from the fact I can't use Nova Launcher. December Security Patch.

Thought it only fair to warn people. Will never recommend a Huawei (or Honor) to a UK user again. Screenshot_20190715_134410.jpg

CPW usually use globally unlocked devices so they can send them out any deal they do( contract/sim free/ payg) and updates should not be controlled by a network.
I have been keeping tabs on what they are doing in preparation for a purchase, the last update i had on a note pad was (9.0.0.195) – Europe that is 2 or 3 beyond yours.
Are you sim free or contract?

SIM-Free. The problem is with the UK version it will be associated with whatever SIM you put in the phone.

After putting in my 3 SIM the next update that came had carrier alterations (bloat/3 splash screen/etc.) So they obviously have to get their filthy hands all over the update before it can get pushed out.

Huawei are beyond useless with actually telling you what the hell is going on though - they still spout out the crap that it's all random IMEI selection and be patient when it's clearly not what's going on.

Honestly I'm done with them. It's happening with the Mate 20 Pro too and even the P30 I think. If you are UK user don't even think about it would be my advice.

Not just 3 network either, happening on all UK networks.

That is very weird for a carrier to be altering updates it sounds more like network sim free rather than a global sim free, so the only way round this is to manually download and flash the update yourself.
I wonder if this intervention is down to a UK co-op with the US, there is no such intervention on a Samsung globally unlocked device they updates come direct from Samsung.

It is strange and very annoying. The problem is you can't get an honest answer from anyone as to what's going on.

Speaking to Huawei and 3 support is enough to give you a stroke. Complete waste of time.

It's specifically the phones that were shipped for UK users (Model CLT-L09 for the P20 Pro). If I could rebrand to the European version I'd be on timely updates but you can't do that anymore since last year because of Huawei bootloader unlock policy.

Yep sheer madness, I would love to know the reason why things have been done this way.

If you know what you are doing it's amazing (so I'm told). I'm not much of a photographer but yes, even I can take nice photos with this.

The detail of 40MP in good light is very impressive. Well it was at least April last year, when released.

Will have to take your word on that one. UK users might not know for ages yet, if ever.

What network are you on if you don't mind me asking? I think 3 might be the worst for carrier deals/bloat, etc
