well.. you can move the softkeys around to your liking, this is harder with hardware keys, so they had to make a decision.. how can the freedom of choice be a con?

You can use the on-screen buttons to which you can move the buttons to whatever layout you want, and also have 3 or 4 buttons set. This unboxing video might be to your liking.

I can see the con being you need to use the on-screen keys taking away from the screen space.. which i would of preferred to have a smaller bottom bezel than capacitive keys BUT since theyre there... i am going to probably use them.

There is also the menu key ...it isn't needed on newer android devices since Google killed it in early 2012!

Freedom but the icon will show something else if I change it. AWESOME will be if those capacitive icons get the one of its function! ;-)

I agree. I have the HTC ONE but will be strange having to unjust to the layout of the One Plus One. It is strange on the my HTC to have only two buttons, and one large logo in the middle that does nothing.

Is this really something to rant about? Odds are you will get used to the button placement, just like you did with all the button placements so far.

I will be using the onscreen buttons but I'll check out the function for remaping the hardkeys if I might need some screenestate

I'm typing this reply using Messagease (look it up) on an unrooted Nexus 4. I was a diehard fan of the traditional Nexus layout before reading your post while happening to be holding my phone in my right hand. i have relatively small hands for a guy but with the help of Messagease and resting the bottom of the phone on my pinky I get really good one-handed usage out of it. I just reached down to the recent apps button and imagined it as the back button and I kinda fell in love. As much of a vanilla android buff as i am, on-screen or not I think I'm going to reconsider the Samsung layout. Thanks @geesonrob

Such a complicated questions deserves more than just a yes or no response. Unfortunately, I think a truly meaningful and well thought out answer would be distracting to the topic of conversation at hand. I would hate to highjack the thread by getting into the great 12-6 cloud debate.

I'm used to the Samsung layout. I'll be fine. The way I hold my phone, this layout is actually easier for me to use. But soft keys are always there.

I think even worse is the fact, that there is a menu button instead of a multi tasking button...
