Cache bug.

Clearing cache from storage settings doesn't work actually. Every time i clear the cache from there it shows that i got rid of it but in the background it increases the size of the "other" folder present inside the storage option under settings. it feels like the cache is getting transferred to that folder and not wiping off.
I also tried clearing cache from recovery after clearing it first from settings but the "other" folder size remained intact. I think clearing cache doesn't work. Also the size of the "other" keeps on increasing everytime i do this. It's kinda loophole.

    Has anyone observed it?

does the other folder get larger every time you clear the cache? have you tried to free up space and see if this removes the cache from the other folder?

yes it gets larger everytime. it's kinda loophole. Also free up space thing doesn't work on cache. it's just for unused apps or large files etc. idk what lies inside other folder coz on clicking on other it just opens file manager so don't know what's happening here.

I am searching for it right now. I speculate that it may not actually be a folder and that the operating system is lumping a bunch of files together and calling them other storage media

yaa. you're right and its in every OS for dumping useless files, crash reports and logs etc. But in our case it's transferring cache to that folder as well.

this could also be something new with Android Oreo and the a/b partitioning systems

no. it's a bug. If you clear cache manually in every app then it doesn't increase the other's size. but it's kinda tedious task. It has nothing to do with the partition. the partition is for background installation of system updates so that you don't have to see the bootup screen stating' your system is upgrading' or if in case your system gets corrupted then there's other partition to boot properly with fresh os and data so that your phone will still work.

yes and clearing all maybe some sort of Fail-Safe. by clearing all your cache at one time it may trigger a temporary storage. with your a/b partitioning everything is copied over. this may be a Fail-Safe just in case for whatever reason you cannot boot and need to revert to another slot. just a guess but who knows. I wonder if anyone else that has a pixel phone or another phone that has the a/b partitioning could answer that question

Sharing cache over partitions doesn't make any sense. The purpose of cache is to run that app fast the next time you open it and cache is not required for fail-safe, just the app data. that's it. idk what's going in here haha
