There is no explicit setting for disabling camera shutter sound, you need to silent your profile or disable sound from Notification screen before using camera.

bummer... rooting helps to make a lot of things possible... i found a few methods but both of them involve root access.

But if you keep your phone in 'silent' mode while taking pictures i'm sure the sound won't be heard. I know it's not a perfect fix, but it's something.

Get that thing rooted as you have so many options after that. Jump over on the XDA forums and check out Wugfresh's Oneplus Toolkit. It's the simplest and easiest way to unlock the bootloader and obtain root access. It's a matter of DL the Toolkit, enabling ADB in developer options and then hooking up the phone to the computer, then following the few steps after that.

It's not a big deal to root, as there are plenty of step by step guides here in the forums as well as XDA.
But the main thing to understand is, all your user data, app data, profiles, media files and other files will be deleted upon the first step of rooting (unlocking bootloader).
Always sync all you user details with gmail and backup all contacts with your gmail account and copy the rest of the data you have on your phone to your laptop or PC, before starting to do all the steps involved in rooting. ( there are other backup apps like 'titanium backup' , 'helium', which enables cloud/online backup.)
If you have backed up all your data and still regiment on getting your device rooted, try the following links to get started.
Just try the first link. Be patient and follow the steps and if you encounter any issue, just do a quick search in the oneplus forums or xda. You will be able to find solutions for almost everything in these two forums.

PS: Always backup your data beforehand.
