Here is some pictures. Tried my best to make identical pics. First pic is stock second is gcam. The version mentioned as in this pic.

Some pics stock camera wins and some Gcam. The general difference can be some coloring issues sometime. But I guess that is to be expected by a camera such as Gcam. It more in a experimental status. Stock camera seems to get closest to reality nearly all the time. The other stuff I noticed is that Gcam sometimes favors grainy details and softer look while stock camera can deform some situations and make it look weird. Some other situations stock succeeds while some more grains can occur on Gcam. So some stuff in stock cam can provide better pics while also distort some parts were a grainy blur would actually be more realistic.
Pics are taken handheld with just point and click. No manual focus area or anything. Flash off and everything auto.
Stock wins on the colors.
Harder to say here...
There is some the strange effect on the tree bark here on stock.
Colorwise stock is a winner.
While color is more correct on stock it has some issues with the bark and the asphalt especially in the shadows.
Minor differences mostly.
Colors don't match on Gcam and more detail on for example the speed dial on the car on stock camera.
Some bark issues behind the main tree and also higher up in the pic on the main tree. Stock camera also seems to have a hard time handling the movements by the wind.
Mostly color differences. Bark issues...
A win for stock.
Stock wins for me.
Prefer stock I guess.
For the most part a win for stock.
Stock handles the dark areas better.
Sharper on Gcam but prefer colors on stock.
Not much needed to be said here. Stock cam automatically kick in a kind of night mode and demands way longer time to snap the picture.

Looks like familiar results. Then again a lot depends on which configs are selected for the Gcam. For me the main issue with the stock is the way it handles dark/shadow areas at times - it absolutely crushes them with some scenes. Also you mentioned some funky bark issues - it's like what happens with textures like brick walls and fabrics - I've seen it happen on rock surfaces as well. It looks like the end result of a specific sharpening trick you can do in Photoshop It's like the noise is first smoothened out by a kind of surface blur and then it's artificially sharpened.
And the mention of stock having an issue with moving branches and the like - guess that's due to longer time between multiple exposures. The Gcam by default seemed to have shorter shutter speed and higher ISO so it's quicker between the exposures. That might even be the reason for some light haloing in some shots I've taken with the stock camera.
The stock camera might end up being really good if they put focus on the absolute image quality. Also it would be nice to have a bit more consistency between all cameras. Maybe next update
Great test btw!
when it come to oneplus 7???
looks good to me
shot on oneplus is not coming on the photos
At first glance many photos produced by the stock camera seen quite nice. Like the one attached to this post. But when you look at it at full resolution you'll see the crazy sharpening that's being done: https://photos.app.goo.gl/MH4mWpGb9PMA96QFA
Smallest details have been smoothened out and then it's sharpened. It often creates almost like an emboss effect in textures like brickwalls at a distance, tree bark etc. Also here once again the darkest shadows get flattened to near black while the brightest parts are nearly overblown. Looks like something after being tweaked in Instagram
thank you for the continued work on the camera app, but a lot of work is still needed for the nightscape mode.
the latest camera update gave us a little wider field of view, and slightly less grainy nightscape photos. Nightscape is still producing a redish tint to final render.
OnePlus camera 3.2.67 with nightscape (before the 9.5.7 update)
OnePlus camera 3.2.101 with nightscape (after the 9.5.7 update)
OnePlus camera 3.3.10 with nightscape (from apkmirror)
GCam version 2.0.190420.0415build-6.2.024.239729896 with night sight (MGC_6.2.030_Bulkin043_V3Q.apk)
I am noticing a lower battery backup after the last update!
I agree with you
Im not completly satisfied with the new update. Its better in some ways but not everything is better. In many pictures its just a small portion that is in focus and the rest is blurry, even when it should be in focus.
I took o photo before and after the update at my daughter and the before picture has a more true color, efter the update it became more redisch than pink, as it should be.
This is a photo on my girlfriends hand today, it was not moving, shot in auto mode and HDR auto.
There is also a color differens when you change between telephoto lens and 1x lens..
Thanks for extensive comparison. Not a whole lot in it really between stock and GCam. Subjectivity (preference) of hue/WB/saturation, but the consistency of camera image quality is all over the place not only in your test but in many others. Not sure what OP are busy working on (are they?) or have in mind, but they have a ways to go before I can jump in. I wonder if they are waiting to draw their conclusions from the open ears Amsterdam session? If so. I do hope they fill the room with positive, critical minds and not easily pleased overly optimistics. At the end of the day, we shouldn’t even be talking about or debating defects. We should just be sharing great photography! Ah well.
I m getting grainy effect for portrait using the rear camera . Does anyone else get such effect while clicking photos using portrait mode ?
Wow I really notice a difference. I unboxed my one plus 7 and it was not up to date. Today I updated and am so impressed with the difference. Keep up the good work guys you just won a decade long Samsung fanboy.
I have oh just got 9.5.4 update today on EE in UK! why are we so far behind?
Don't get hooked up on the version numbers. You might even get some stuff before us sometimes (already did)... No sure why the the delay happens on certain components of the updates though...
