I was under the impression that when we patched to Android P our codecs would have also been upgraded.

Can OnePlus support provide any lead time on when we move away from JPEG to HEIC??

I'd be great full for any insight, I'm not buying this "Never Settle"

If there has been other threads and I have over seen these, I apologize in advanced.

HEIF is a standard and developed MPEG, it's not proprietary to Apple. If I'm wrong, give me context.

This is available to Android 9 and has been for a while, this is why I'm curious if anyone knows anything within the community, not just the "feedback team"

I'd never have a Apple. They are a total rip off.

I'm highly doubtful of this. OnePlus doesn't pay for IP certification concerning their phones although YouTube demonstrations clearly show that their recent products have been made with water resistance in mind. I can't see OnePlus paying the licencing fees for usage rights of the HEIF codec anytime soon.

What is required to use this codec? The hardware supports it. Is it the camera app? I'm curious to see if this can be achieve buy purchasing an app with a license yourself perhaps?

Saving to HEIF and HEVC files from phone camera is a must feature. If there is an issue of the licensing cost, OnePlus should provide an option to end users to purchase the license, which would allow to enable saving to these new and storage efficient formats by default.

I can't believe OnePlus still isn't using HEIF in 2020, I thought is was the standard format on my OnePlus 7 Pro but I just realized it's not

Currently that Camera software will not work with 6T. I am guessing because it is completely new hardware, and completely new software has been coded for it, to suit the hardware.

7 series hardware which is still in the 3 build versions still works from ApkMirror.

Also GCam Camera from the link below is excellent and works way better that Onplus Camera, try it and see what you think.

Dev Marco Gcam integrated XML files for 6 series phones.

I have this one installed and it works very well.

    7.3_GCam_MJL_v4.1.1_Minilux.apk (marco, 2020-04-29, oneplus 6/6t, changelog)

The XML are integrated, so no additional files required.
