Camera Camera2 API bugs for 3rd party camera apps?

@Bob Ong We need you to have a new look to this issue. It's unaceptable to have finished product that is not stable when using the camera (crashes the phone). It has been like this for a year. Is oneplus willing to refund us who didn't get what we think we bought? I would love to have a working camera2 api, you know, like the vast majority of phones in this price range and even lower

Edit: Oneplus 5 got fixed lately. How hard can it be to fix something that was working good before and got bad implemented?

I don't understand what you mean exactly by "Oneplus 5 got fixed lately".
You mean to say that Oxygen 5.0.2 (latest production release) allows the use of Camera 2 API with 3rd party apps with higher ISO and shutter speeds longer than 1/12s ?

P.S. I installed OpenCamera on OOS 5.0.2, enabled Camera2Api, pulled the shutter speed slider all the way to the right, the screen shows a toast of 48 seconds, but the on-screen info shows a max of 1/12s.

AFAIK, the full ISO range is available and there are no hard crashes there, I own an OP3T so I can't assure it 100%. AS the 1st post stastes, the biggest issue are the crashes who make using camera2 api a headache. Phone will freeze for 10-20 secs

This is normal - the on-screen shows the rate of the preview, with long exposures set the preview still has a max of 1/12s (otherwise you'd get a really jerky preview if it was also taking 48s to update each frame!) Although I can see it being misleading, so I may revisit what's displayed on-screen.

I see now that I haven't finished my idea in this post :). My bad.
The on screen 1/12s toast is part of the problem ... The actual time it takes to take the photo (when the slider is at 48s and the toast shows 1/12s) is very short ... smaller than 1 sec (guessing actual 1/12s).

So for the Stock OP5 camera app, I set the ss at > 1s times .. and I wait for that amount of time to get the picture (max 30s).
For all other 3rd party apps on Play Store, the max real time (shutter speed) I can use is (in my case) 1/12s (for Open camera, camera fv-5, footej .. and so on).

This leads me to believe that the actual hardware of the camera for OP5 (also tested on OP5T and also with Lineage OS instead of OOS) allows only 1/12s and the build in camera ss of > 1/12s is done by software.

The sad thing is, if the above is true, is that OP1 for which I tested the same scenario, using the same 3rd party apps, allows for speeds up to 48s ...

So could it be that there's a hidden compromise for the OP5 camera hardware as compared to previous OP models (I suspect models OP1, OPX, OP2 not have this hardware limitation).

Ah I see. Yes this seems to be a OnePlus 5/5T bug then. On my OnePlus 3T it does take longer exposure photos (though the preview is still limited to 1/12s on Open Camera).

Maybe - though the camera API shouldn't claim it can support longer than it actually does.

@mdwh Open beta 34 on OP3 same problem. Since the beginning of Nougat ROMs this has been an issue.
I downgraded to marshmallow and didn't update for a long time because of this reason.
Not a single camera app that needs camera api2 works.

Except Bacon camera. I don't how, but it works. Does 30s long exposure, and ISO goes up to 3200.
And same is true for OP5, does around 43-somethung sec long exposure.

I still see this bug on a OnePlus 3T (A3003) running OxygenOS 5.0.5. I'm using OpenCamera 1.43.3, and found out about this bug through its bug tracker!

    Congratulations, excellent work.
I also have a 12.5 Close-up Lens but haven't got the chance (or patience) to do some stacking ... but now that I've seen the potential ... I'll get right on it :D

Open camera app I used and created good photos. The developer did well and instructed the user to understand how to use it the first time.I am Dollify (https://apkrapido.com/dollify/)
