Can anyone explain to me the ADB root feature?

I thought it was such a cool discovery by the person who found the flawed/intended APK - Engineering Mode.

The idea of rooting the device without boot loader unlock - which means in the process of unlocking our phone wouldn't be factory reset. We can enjoy the features of using root commands without actually rooting our device.

I don't understand why people made it into a big issue that OnePlus will now release an OTA that will remove the feature.

Can anyone explain to me if the feature was good or bad?

    Thanks!

There's a reason why you need to unlock your bootloader and do a factory reset before being able to root. And that reason is security.

Being able to root through adb opens the door to exploits.

But didn't Qualcomm also comment that someone would need access to the hardware to actually gain root access to our device?

Yes, you do. But it's still an exploitable backdoor. Unlocking the bootloader is so easy that I don't see why would anyone prefer to have something that is a potential backdoor.
