I updated to android/Oxygen 12 soon after receiving my new 9 pro. After which I noticed several things I did not like. One of which was the inability to disable pre-loaded Google apps (duo, Gmail, etc..). I went thru a huge process to downgrade my phone back to 11. Then I see that there was a push of the. 40 fix, so I thought, "great I'll update again and the issues will be fixed "! Nope, still cannot disable apps like I used to be able to. Thoughts?

That's indeed not possible anymore in Oxygen OS 12

But you can disable them via adb if you want

You can't disable Google apps on 12.
You can remove using ADB method by connecting phone to a pc.
But later, when you update the os they will be back.

For Browser, if you need to remove Default Browser, it is not possible... if you have multiple browsers, Google Chrome would be default, you can change to other but if you remove the default from others it'll switch to Chrome...

Really wish they didn't do this. One of the best features of OxygenOS I'd boast about was the flexibility to avoid the "Google knows best" bloat ware. Feels like a regression of what the OS brought to the users in terms of control.

Just don't change (remove) the links that Vanced can open. Learned the hard way that removing them, means they can't be re-enabled, so any Youtube links will result in opening YT. Sucks!

I will pile on. Being able to largely avoid big brother Google was the main selling point of OnePlus and OxygenOS for me. This is a major disappointment.

It might be a bug. I had youtube diaabled before the update and it remained disabled after the update. Yet I don't have the choice to enable it. The button is greyed out.

@jnowland7, Just found a script here which does exactly that. It's basically an automation of the commands showed in the XDA post provided by @Aaron2017. The only difference is that you can disable all that you need with a single command. Until one plus will probably decide to remove that too :-(
Check this out: https://github.com/angeloorru/GoogleAndFBCrapwareRemovalTool. I've just run it on my one plus 8 pro with oxygen os 12 and I successfully removed the unwanted apps. If I'll update the OS, I'll re run the script again instead of doing that again manually for every app I want to remove :)
