Just installed Lineage 9 - finally - after almost a whole day of fiddling around. i also installed gapps but forgot to add Su root as well as a last step. So when i went back to TWRP and "installed" SuperSu v2.8 and then rebooted, i checked to see if we had root by using TWRP from the running phone. No luck. Just to check, i also tried Titanium Backup and it also reported that we still didn't have root.

How should i proceed? Have a great evening! :)

anupritaisno1 - much appreciate your comment as well. i imagine that messing with the bootloader and root will always have their challenges. i'm still looking for a way to root the 3 which will now go to the wife since our 5 has arrived in the mail. Am now in the process of trying to root it as well. Actually LineageOS has a suggested root program included in their rooting/unlock bootloader instructions which is the one we always try first - before moving on to the more "dangerous" ones - lol.

Again, thanks for replying and have a wonderful day-before-New-Years! :)
