Charging cycle of OnePlus Nord 2 5g via OnePlus Nord 2

  1. H1638456419850 , via OnePlus Nord 2 , Jan 16, 2022 :
I am a proud user of OnePlus nord 2 5g. I need a clarification regarding the charging cycle of phones which have 65Watts warp charging. Technophiles claim that the charging cycle of any phones should be 20-85%. As phones with 65watt charging reaches 100% within 30 minutes, I find it hard to unplug my phone without being fully charged. Also, the phone gives considerably increased SOT if fully charged. Does it really degrade the lifespan of the battery if I charge upto 100% everytime or is it only a myth for phones with advanced fast charging support?

Thank you so much. The article is so nice that most of my doubts got clarified. It seems that it is better to maintain the cycle of 20-80%. Now, the thing is, if I'm maintaining 20-80%, I've got to charge my phone twice a day as I'm a heavy user. Just thinking, will this on the other hand, cause quick degradation of the battery life?

Sorry to hear that you have these issues with Nord 2. Call recording and video call bugs got fixed with A.16 update. You might be receiving it soon. I had no issues with charging so far.

Btw, It would be better if u post this either in a thread which relates to your topic or create a new thread regarding this. Otherwise, it will be hard to get solutions for both of our issues since the thread becomes polluted.

In my opinion, batteries will degrade overtime because at the end of the day they usually have a limited lifespan. You can charge as much as you want within that percentage range and you should be good. You also don't have to worry if you sometimes end up charging it all the way to 100%. That's fine.

I usually charge within 25-80% and up to 100% twice or thrice after installing any OTA that appears around bi-monthly phases just to clear off any potential issues with charging if any.

When you say 'heavy user' does it mean gaming and/or streaming? Because that would certainly be heating up the phone and heat is not so good for batteries. You may want to take breaks to allow the phone to cool down at regular intervals to improve the lifespan at least.

Thankyou so much for your kind suggestions. As you have asked, let me mention my daily usage in decreasing order of priority.
    1. Whatsapp, Instagram and YouTube
    2. Browsing
    3. Camera
    4. A little bit of not so graphic intense gaming

As you mentioned, the mobile do feel warm with prolonged use (even if used only WhatsApp for an hour). With mobile data, the mobile gets immense heat even in standby (Worrisome). I get 7 hours of SOT with wifi and 5 hours of SOT with mobile data (15-100% cycle).

The usage seems normal. Mobile data in comparison to Wi-Fi does cause some sort of heating so that seems normal too.

A battery is designed for X amount of charge cycles before the battery is so worn out and has to be replaced. This is due to the way batteries are build, and the way they store electricity.

If you charge from 5%-100% it will consume 1 charging cycle.
If you charger from 20%-80% it will consume something like 0.5 charging cycles.

This is just theoretical numbers, and I haven't seen any real life advantages of not charging full. But what I do is I use a slower charging wall plug at night to keep battery healthy for longer.

    Less watts/amp = less heat
    Less heat = healthier battery

I have a couple of doubts as well. Not sure this is the right place to ask.

Is overnight battery draining (10-12%) normal? If not, how could I minimise it?
Should I clear all the recent apps before going to bed or is it better to keep them as it is? (To improve battery life)

    Thanks in advance 😇

Having battery saver on, Wi-Fi or mobile data off can help, that is if your emergency calls are SIM specific only and not through WhatsApp or other apps. Although, this may not make a huge difference but it'll make some difference ;).

    First of all...
Turn off the background activity of those applications which u use rarely.

Then follow these steps during the night time...
1.Turn off internet connection (Mobile data/Wifi).
2.Turn off other connectivities like Bluetooth,.etc.
    2.Clear all recent apps.
3.Turn off auto rotation and location.
