About 3 months ago, we launched our first app, Clipt, right here on the forums and we’ve been working hard on improving the user experience. We wanted to introduce it to those who haven’t tried it out, share an inside scoop for those who have used it, and chat in the forums about what improvements you would like!
    Latest update:
🏆 We now have over 80,000 Clipt users from Almost 200 countries that have transferred over 13 million pieces of data. 🏆

We have all been there: sending ourselves an email to get a picture, or messaging ourselves just to get something to another device. With remote work on the rise, connectivity between your devices is more important than ever. So, how do you transfer something from your phone to laptop?

If you’ve ever asked yourself that question, it’s time to try Clipt - a new app by OneLab.

Clipt is an app that creates a link to seamlessly transfer text, photos, and files between your devices. Simply download Clipt on your mobile device, connect it to your browser, and you’re ready to use. If you like the sound of that, check out the links below (You need to download on =>2 devices for it to work):

When developing Clipt, we saw users in the community going through a painful process to send information between devices. We saw this a problem worth solving. In the first day we saw a 7050% increase in data transfers, our jaws hit the floor! Our developer, Tim, spent days after the launch just increasing our server size just to accommodate its success!

Trust us when we say - it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Our small but mighty team has come across three main challenges that put our problem solving to the test:

    1. Developing the Product Across Different Platforms
Originally, Clipt was exclusively offered on Google Chrome & Android. We stuck to one platform to create a quality baseline product, but after the successful launch, we had lots of users asking for compatibility with other browsers. Now, we have expanded usability reach to more than just Chrome: Clipt offers connectivity with browsers based on Chromium such as Edge, Opera, and Brave. Still working hard on the iOS version!

    2. Users are using it for images and files

Initially, we thought text would be the main use case, however, data shows that over 40% of items sent from mobile are images or files. We’ve worked hard to implement multi-share and a floating button to upload directly from within the app.

    3. Privacy: How Do We Secure User Data?

This has always been at the forefront of our minds while developing Clipt. We have worked to instill privacy measures in the app and provide ample explanation to users. Clipt does not see what you transfer, as it uses Google Drive to only send a way to identify a file. Clipt only sees what you are transferring as an identifying number and file type, for instance: #123 text_link

    MicrosoftTeams-image (17).png

We are overwhelmed by the continuous support from Clipt users and are excited to hear your thoughts & continue to evolve. The big features we’re working on are: iOS version, increasing the history to 20 items, improving the image and file sharing. Let us know what you want to see next below and we’ll be in the forums answering any questions you might have👇

The data is pretty clear that people are using Clipt to transfer images and files much more than we expected so there are a few improvements we've got in the pipeline right now. Good to hear you're using it so much and yes the download experience on Chrome is something we'd like to improve.

Currently, you can paste directly into some applications and some webpages on chrome, for instance, Clipt and image and paste into a google doc. You'll see it goes straight in. However, there are quite a few pages this doesn't work on which we need to investigate further.

To improve the download process on the browser side we have a number of ideas which it would be good to hear your opinion:
    • Multi image/file upload and grouped download (either individually or as a .zip)
    • Auto download for images and files on browser
    • Downloading locally rather than through Chrome (which is why a new tab opens and closes right now)
    Cheers, ST

    Hi There,

Sorry I've just seen both comments. You're correct in saying that we use Google Drive to transfer information. Think of it like Clipt telling your phone to upload file 123XYZ from your Google Drive and then Clipt also telling your Laptop to download file 123XYZ from G drive. We actually don't handle or read the information.

    https://www.businessinsider.com/is-google-drive-secure?r=US&IR=T

How much storage you use is dependent on what files you have in the history (currently 10 items). So the sum of those will be the allocated storage which will rolling change based on your usage. You can also delete the history of you would like.

I hope this makes sense and looking forward to you using the app!

Weren't our roots building something based off a Google system?

Sorry there is no Firefox extension right now, it's something we're considering but it will take quite a chunk of our development resource. I appreciate your position tho and you're not alone so it can be on our future roadmap.

Currently the code isn't shared but I think this is a great idea, I'll chat with the development team next week to see if this is realistic.

    Cheers

    Thank you for your reply,

the OxygenOS sources are available already , so this should not be difficult.
And maybe the developer community might support you to get a Firefox extension running ,so your own dev team should be happy- as long as their code is good enough for showing it. This is a joke! ;)

Google started building Android with Open Source Linux and C standard library and java ,later switching from Dalvik virtual machine to ART , and they (Google) bought with Android a OS originally made for digital cameras.

So the roots are Linux , Java and some more -mostly- Open source code, Google added their closed source spyware to earn money from the user s data and licence fees from manufacturers, who want to use Android as OS on their phones.
Personally i would prefer a clipt app which is not using any google technology , but i agree that this may be too difficult and expensive at the beginning, but since apple is trying to scan private data in their cloud it s time to get away from all major tech services, including google.

I guess this is difficult if you have a restricted work environment. Maybe try opening a background window with your personal ID logged in on your laptop. It is powerful enough to copy across the device.

GDrive is used as we don't pay for the server space and it means you can keep a history. Also the idea is you don't need to be on the same network and connect as many devices as you would like.

You can since day 1. Share in the normal way in android to click the + button bottom left when you open the app.
To send from your laptop/mac then open the extension (pin it to make it easier) and then click the + button to open a window to drag and drop files into.

Hi All! Sorry for the long post, so much we would love to share!

We're super proud of the work that's gone into Clipt and hearing positive feedback from users across the world is amazing. We're posting here today looking for honest advice on how to improve and to share some of the inner workings of how we have developed the feature. It's been a whirlwind few months with many improvements but we've got a long way to go! Let's chat 👇🏻

A fun bit of data to share is that only 43% of users are from OnePlus... 🤯 Kinda crazy we have so many users from Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi. Where did they come from? 😂

@Andi L. will also be helping answer some of the questions as well.
