Sorry if this has already been discussed. I was about to upgrade to the OP7 from my trusty OP3 but I am now hesitant after seeing the ban placed on Huawei. Have One Plus addressed this and gave any assurance as to where their products stand? Thank you

Nothing official from Oneplus that I'm aware of.

However, the Huawei ban is because of their networking infrastructure equipment. The US gov't is worried about potential backdoors in network routers/modems/transmitters, not the Huawei phones.

No they haven't....because OnePlus manufactures only phones unlike Huawei who manufactures networking equipment (again..not phones) that you are probably unaware of which is what led to the blanket ban on anything with the Huawei name.

    Also....Paranoid much ?

    Also paranoid much?

How on earth does it make me paranoid to ask for details before shelling out hundreds for a brand new phone that may be refused android updates in a week or so? If you're going to help people there's no need to be an *** on the end.

Well yes not everyone is clued up on the workings and reasoning for the ban, I happened to stumble across a few threads of people asking the same question as me on reddit. I thought people would be helpful on here rather than pretentious, obviously mistaken.

If this is your concern, read the Google statement to get all the answers on how Huawei owners are not afflicted.

Obviously not, the ban affecting updates for huawei devices. Why do you persist on trying to create arguments with people obviously not as in the know as you? Slow day or does it make you feel big?

I have read on numerous websites that huawei devices will have no access to play store etc, just thought I'd ask the question before purchasing with both devices being Chinese smart phones.

    Future devices......and that too maybe.

Huawei is too big a company and this may be difficult for you to wrap your head around but they make a ton of other networking equipment which may or may not have been used for espionage purposes.....which is why they are in trouble.

Android has nothing to do with the ban directly. It's just a byproduct of phones running on Android and Google being an American company.

This has nothing to do with the fact (not entirely atleast) that Huawei is a Chinese Company.

and again....NOTHING TO DO WITH ONEPLUS.

I appreciate your help but also think the sarcastic tone could be dropped. I am a mechanical engineer with very little interest in mobile devices other than hoping they function as they're supposed to.
I came on here to simply seek assurance that if I spend £600+ on a new mobile that I won't have the same issue as Huawei users. To me that is a perfectly fine request and one that a lot of others are questioning on reddit also.

Either you only half read or the sites you read on are mis informed. It is ONLY on future models all Huawei Android devices as of yesterday will still have access to Youtube, gmail, Play store etc. Any future Huawei phones will not have the benefit/agony of Google's Play Services but it won't take long before there will be a custom patch to bypass the problem on rooted phones.

So back to your initial concern regarding OP7, as it is already shipped with an official Android version in a scenario where an unlikely ban will take effect, the phone in question will not be affected.

Thank you, believe it or not that is all the information I required. I'm quite busy and thought this would be the best place to ask incase One Plus had addressed the issue.
