    Dear Oneplus community

I'm a 22 year old guy, and - confession - I'm struggeling hard with pornography. Every guy does, nowadays. At least I don't know of any friend who doesn't. Or didn't. And seriously - I'm fed up with digital gadgets that don't allow us to controll stuff like that.

In the wake of the whole "digital wellbeing" stuff, I thought it was the right time to bring up the topic. I start here, because I've owned a Onplus phone ever since the op1 came out, and I love the brand. @OnePlus tends to listen to their community - and I hope they will listen here as well.

Now I've tried to restrict my Internet access on the phone by any means possible. Filter apps, monitoring apps... On Android, there's always a way around. With a guest account for example, you get a fully unmonitored space, a "clean slate". Well, you say, then lets create a secondary account, lock the primary account and give the password to a friend. Hmm, tried that one. Works, untill you discover the device admin settings. Or the accessibility settings. Which both allow you to kill off any restricting app - effortlessly. In the Settings of Android Pie, that works as follows:

    1. Apps & notifications > Special App Access > Device admin apps > TOGGLE
    2. Security & lock screen > Device admin apps > TOGGLE
    3. System > Accessibility > TOGGLE

It's that easy. Self restriction on the Android plattform is a nightmare. And I'm not even talking about family and child protection yet. On Android, protecting a tech-savy teenager from the filth of the internet is nearly impossible. And in our digital world, allmost every teenager is tech-savy.

So dear @OnePlus and @Google, I have a proposititon to make.
Why don't you bake a restricted Mode into Android. It could look like this:

Add a Toggle "Family Mode" In the "Security & lock screen" Section of the Settings. As long as it is off, nothing changes.
If it's toggled though, the user can define a new passcode which is destinct from the lock screen security. Once the passcode is defined, he can modify the Family Mode. The user can:

    - restrict access to device admin apps
    - restrict access to accessibility apps
    - restrict access to guest mode
    - enable safe search with different levels (very strict, strict, mild)

I believe that it is possible to create a safe space on Android devices that is both controllable and accountable. Not only for guys like me who whish to protect themselves, but also for our parents and the generation to come. I know that I am not alone with this. I know you can make this happen @OnePlus. And dear Community, please help me to push this thread and generate awareness for the topic at hand. Feel free to add your thoughts to the discussion.

    Kind regards,
    pngmankitsol

    Hi pngmankitsol,
First and foremost there is no porn in android, if at all there is any it is on the internet, and I am sorry to say but no one can save you from that except for yourself.
Secondly, it's a matter of preference make a strong determination and move away from it, do not look back.
also there are no developers here, there is nothing that can be done here and if there had to be even the slightest possibility of doing something then you may suggest the same here:
    https://forums.oneplus.com/feedback/
unfortunately, your plea falls on deaf ears here!
hope you get rid of your addiction soon.
    goodluck,
    Yash [e]1f60a[/e]

    To answer briefly:
    - porn is a market, not "in" any device or system
    - as a market, porn only survives because some people are ready to pay and watch it. Kill the customers, you kill the offer, this is a simple law of economics.
    - porn doesn't come to your device by itself, you have to go and look for it. Just stop. That's your free will.
    - Any technical solution can be surrounded. Children protection only last till they understand how to pass through. That's how is tech, like the fight between shield and sword.

If you are addicted to porn and can't handle the fact that you have easy access to it using the internet on your cell, then get a flip phone. Problem solved, no need for them to add anything.

You are right - there is no porn on Android per se. And yes - it is all about strong determination. But you wouldn't want a former addict to heroin wander alone in a room full of the drug?
It's all about support and protection. My proposal would still have you give someone else the authority over your phone. You'd have to allow that. I will duplicate this post on the feedback section.

Just to clarify what I am trying to achieve here:
I believe that - even though I am very well aware that there will always be a way to get to "Porn" if you wannt to - it is still possible to create a safe space on the android plattform that protects users.
The thing that I am proposing is nothing complicated and would allow to make access to porn so much less intuitive.
All I wannt is enough attention to get Oneplus / Google/ Android dev team to work something out.

Maybe this is the wrong place - sorry for that. But you have to start somewhere, no?

You are right in every single point mentioned. But what i propose would make consuption in weak moments so much harder than "I feel a tingle, lets flip a switch and go for it".

Its all about self protection. And really- I do belive that this can be achieved!

Not the right place/Time to talk about the merits and demerits of porn, it's still broad daylight here XD
I'll come back to that later.
I would surely want a person (whom I know) taking drugs to quit, but for that I can persuade him or insist him to quit it, I cannot lock him up in a room and tell him "No, Heroin for you!!"
I can take the horse to the water, to drink or not is a matter of his choice.
If I want to do something I will do it, no matter what.
And TBH you want to watch it , do it, if not then don't even think about it.
Don't mean to offend anyone but, how about being tied to your bed? As kinky as it may sound it's still helpful!

As stated earlier I don't think that any of the above (Google, oneplus) can do anything to hold you back from your fantasies.
Life is short enjoy it to its fullest!
    Regards.

    It's called addiction for a reason :)
Funny how this gets ridiculed. In our day and age - and I should say thank god - drug and substance addictions are finally being taken seriously. Why not so in the digital space? No hard feelings, just saying

If that's a problem for you, maybe search for a doctor.

    And then seek professional help.

    Or the other way around.

Spot on. I couldn't agree more. But the point is: I don't want to "drink". I don't want to watch porn. But my phone - which i need for so many reasons @Madnezz4Ever - is like a room full with heroin (metaphoricly speaking).

And as I mentioned some times already: I do believe that it is possible. Not for Google and Oneplus to save me from porn - thats pathetic. But that they can offer users the choice to shut it out - of that I am conviced.

In this case, there's no physical addiction, it's only in the mind.
So it's easier to get away from it.
Avoiding occasions, in the first place. If occasions are at night, it's a good idea to remove all screens from the room, and make them autoswitch at any given time if possible. It will be harder and longer to go in another room to take the device, and switch it on again.
Reading, a real book, printed on paper, is also a good way to keep hands and mind occupied...
Solutions exist, help is possible, but no password, second account or parental permission will ever be effective.

one suggestion whatever you are replying back do so in a all parts, the thread would be closed even before you know. and you will not be able to reply back with the long message you'd have typed.
    back on topic

Ref: the same old phrase (Horse and water) which in this case is Porn and you.
Dont drink.....uh oh! I mean don't watch ,simple?
porn is all around just be determined and don't watch!

    side note,
    luckily/unfortunately ( I don't know what)
here in India porn is partially banned and is tougher than usual to access!

Wish you a great porn-free weekend!
    regards.
