There are two threads outlining a way of sorting out. I disabled google+; that got me to play stre; updated play services; rebooted; disabled hangouts and google music and booted to a fixed phone without factory reset

    Messy messy messy!
Last two updates have been 'depressing'.
Multiple times restart, reboot, clear cache, stop this and stop that and disable and blah.

Last 2 hrs wasted due to this large 370MB OS update.
Did OPX users gain anything my migrating to new OS and new features?

OMG FINALLY. Disabling google plus has resolved my DAYS LONG issue. During the issue, any app stored on my SD Card was inaccessible. Now I have everything back.

I don't know if this helps, but I went to the Google Play Services app and enabled storage/everything and prompts stopped.

The Google Play app still crashed, so I disabled Google+ and rebooted. Everything is back to normal now.

OK - I was receiving the "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped working" error almost every second. OPX running Android v6.0.1 and OxygenOS v3.1.3. After trying several different fixes posted, I did the following and it seems (for now at least) to have worked.

Settings-->Apps-->Google+-->Disable-->Delete. Reboot. Then there was a notification to update Google Play Services and I was able to do so. I have since reinstalled Google+ and no issues. Fingers crossed it remains that way! Thanks all for the advice!
