I purchased the OnePlus 7 pro 12GB + 256GB variant 2 days back and found something really disturbing. OnePlus is claiming that it has 3X optical zoom which later we saw was just 2.2X plus some digital cropping thing and I am fine with it because I like the fact that they atleast had 2.2X on it. Actually I didn't like the quality of zoom images that oneplus was providing sonI decided to do some minor photography tweaks of my own and found something really disturbing, that being that it was always using the main camera lens for every zoom situation from 1X to 10X and never really changing the capturing lens at 2.2X just like it changes lens at 1X mark (for 0.6X to 1.0X). I verified it by covering each of the particular lens in the zoom interval it was supposed to work (i.e. Wide angle for .6 to 1 and main sensor from 1.1X to 2.2) but found the above thing to be true. Now I am really confused that if I am making a mistake or is OnePlus fooling us because I checked it on the Internet and found nothing in this matter. I want you all to help me in this matter. Help of any kind will be greatly appreciated.

The 3x Tele Lens is fixed focal length and a has a minimal focus distance of around 50 cm...
If the object is closer or you cover the lens, the software automatically switches back to the main camera ...

Have fun with the 7Pro... ;)

Ohh but then why is the phones images at 2.2X not up to the mark like other manufacture's cameras are. The picture has not enough detail if I pinch zoom it.
Is it due to processing or lens quality or am I expecting bit too much of it.

I don't know what you are expecting...

This is a 3.3MP crop of the 8MP photo...

How deep you want to go...?
1MP...? There will be no details left at all... ;)
So don't pinch and zoom this one...
When you reach pixel level everything will get blurred...

please use the search before creating a new thread. There are similar threads already open for discussion.
The zoom is 2.8677x at 12mp and 3x at 8mp.
OnePlus use a small part of the whole sensor to achieve the 3x.
