Common problems & solutions...

    When going through the community app, there are just too many threads that were either asking same/ similar queries, or multiple queries which had the same/ similar solutions. This thread is intended to summarize all those to provide a one-stop solution to common problems.

    Good practices

    1. do not install any app that claims to improve performance or battery life
    2. ‎do not randomly clear apps from RAM
    3. ‎do not clear cache from settings/ storage too frequently
    4. ‎avoid tinkering with system features (like cpu, ram, battery, etc.)

    OTA updates

    Do this before and after update.

    1. wipe app cache from settings/ storage
    2. ‎reboot to recovery
    3. ‎wipe system cache from recovery
    4. ‎reboot


    Problems covered:

    • phone heating
    • battery draining quickly
    • apps crashing or misbehaving
    • system lags or freezes
    • other problems not specific to any particular app
    • lag in home button and/ or capacitive buttons
    • some apps behave abnormally, e.g. videos lag on Facebook, etc.
    • voice breaks when making calls
    • notifications not coming or getting notification sound, but no notifications
    • ads popping up randomly
    • gallery not loading images
    • Google Play Store related (uncertified or not downloading/ updating)
    • wifi or mobile data problem
    • charging LED colour is not changing
    • new charging screen
    • no FM
    • Google Play Store purchase related or License verification fails
    • sync errors
    • phone can be unlocked by everyone
    • phone doesn't ask for pin/ pattern/ password
    • wifi or bluetooth keeps turning on by itself

    Problem(s) I:


    1. phone heating
    2. battery draining quickly
    3. apps crashing or misbehaving
    4. ‎system lags or freezes
    5. ‎other problems not specific to any particular app

    Solution 1:
    1. delete all junk apps (any app that claims to improve performance or battery life, apps you rarely use, etc.)
    2. ‎clear all apps from recents
    3. wipe app cache from settings/ storage
    4. ‎power off
    5. boot to recovery (power+volume down)
    6. ‎wipe system cache
    7. ‎reboot

    Solution 2:

    If solution 1 doesn't work:
    1. backup all your files and apps
    2. ‎factory reset
    3. ‎reboot to recovery
    4. ‎erase everything
    5. ‎wipe system cache
    6. ‎wipe system settings
    7. ‎reboot

    Try setting up device as new instead of restoring from a backup (avoid automatic Google restore).

    Problem II: Launcher related problems

    1. lag in home button and/ or capacitive buttons
    2. ‎some apps behave abnormally, e.g. videos lag on Facebook, etc.

    Solution II:

    1. try deleting cache of launcher and restart it
    2. if that doesn't help, try another launcher.

    Problem III: Voice breaks when making calls

    Solution III:
    Turn off internet and see if it helps.
    If it helps, it is caused by an app like Truecaller.
    _______________________________________________________

    Problem IV: Notifications not coming or getting notification sound, but no notifications

    Solution IV:
    Check battery optimization settings and doze settings. Either disable or whitelist apps (especially chat, email, etc.)

    Problem V: Ads popping up randomly

    Solution V:
    1. Buy the paid version to remove ads and support developer(s)
    2. ‎Disable internet access to the apps (if they don't need it)
    3. ‎Restrict permissions given to the app
    4. ‎Use Ad-Blocker
    _______________________________________________________

    Problem VI: Gallery not loading images

    Solution VI:
    1. delete gallery app cache
    2. ‎if 1 doesn't work, delete gallery app data
    3. ‎if 2 doesn't work, delete gallery app data as well as data for "media storage" and reboot
    _______________________________________________________

    Problem VII: Google Play Store related
    1. Google Play Store status Uncertified
    2. Google Play Store not downloading/ updating apps

    Solution VII:
    1. settings/ Apps/ Google Play Store/ Force Stop
    2. ‎delete app data
    3. ‎if the above doesn't work, repeat and also delete data for Google Services Framework
    4. ‎if none of the above works, repeat and delete data for Google Play Services too and reboot (note that this will delete your search and other history stored in the cloud permanently)

    Problem VIII: WiFi or Mobile Data problem

    Solution VIII:
    1. turn on Airplane mode for 30 seconds, then turn it off
    2. ‎if 1 above doesn't fix, turn on airplane mode and reset network settings from Settings/ Backup and Reset
    _______________________________________________________

    Problem IX: Charging LED colour is not changing

    Solution IX:
    Dash charging will always have blue LED in OOS. Any other colour chosen will show when charging with another charger or laptop.

    Problem X: New Charging screen

    Solution X:
    Caused by apps that claim to improve charging speeds - disable under app settings or uninstall the app.

    Problem XI: No FM

    Solution XI:
    This requires separate hardware and OnePlus currently does not support it.
    _______________________________________________________

    Problem XII: Google Play Store purchase related or License verification fails
    1. When having multiple Google accounts, Google may not default Play Store purchases to the desired account.
    2. In-app purchases do not allow you to choose an account of your choice

    Solution XII:
    1. Uninstall the app (for in-app purchases)
    2. Login to the desired Google Play Store account using a web browser and install (push) the app from there.

    Problem XIII: Sync Errors

    Solution XIII:
    1. Try syncing after sometime
    2. If 1 above fails, remove account, reboot and add account again

    Problem XIV: Insecure Lockscreen
    1. Phone can be unlocked by everyone
    2. Phone doesn't ask for pin/ pattern/ password

    Solution XIV:
    Check smart lock settings. Disable everything and reboot

    Problem XV: WiFi or Bluetooth keeps turning on by itself

    Solution XV:

    1. Turn off WiFi scanning under advanced WiFi settings
    2. Turn off WiFi scanning under Settings/ Location

    This looks fine, but edit it a little to highlight frequently asked issues and format a little so that you won't get the obvious TLDR comments

    add the camera issues as well.
    Instead of directly giving the links, Hyperlink them on the issue description

    Edit: Use FAQ format, instead of saying problem 1, solution 1 etc use

    Don't give too many links. you can't give credits to everyone starting a thread on it. Filter those, choose one and showcase that. Cover multiple issues so that this one can be used to guide several cupcakes, lookout for answers all at one place.
