About time three, I hope they don't do custom firmware phones and stick to the standard unbranded phones but allow access to Volte for all. Hopefully the new oneplus has 5G and three launches the 5G network in time too.

The t-mobile version in the USA comes sim locked, could oneplus be starting sim locked phones [e]1f612[/e], hope not! But good thing with 3 is they started offering the free unlocking service years ago, got all my old devices unlocked, not sure if they still offer that.

Yeah I have a feeling though that it's only in the USA that they did carrier branded phones, because I know the o2 version in the UK is stock & unlocked but I havemha checked with ee & Vodafone so I'm not sure although the delay in 3 getting it is a bit suspicious & might be because 3 refused to do an unlocked version l, but I guess welwe have to wait & see.

Yup, my OP6 is an o2 one and been using it on 3 without the need for an unlock so hope things stay like that in the UK.

That's good to know because I doubt the'll make a custom firmware if it's not even gonna be locked.

well EE have a sim locked varient of the OnePlus 6T so Three might also have their phone Sim locked. Your best bet to get an unlocked OP6T is to buy it direct from OnePlus or from O2 as all their OP devices are not locked to their network and it is the only phone O2 sell that isn't locked to their network! hope this helps!

Three don't sim lock phones anymore. Been like this for a few years now.Don't know why all networks don't do this. Not like they make money from unlocking phones as they have to unlock them for free in UK

I went into EE to ask if it was unlocked and they confirmed to me that it is infact SIM locked to their network so because of that I believe 3 might have the OP6T as a branded phone which will mean they control when to roll out updates etc which is not good for OP in my opinion

I know EE still sim lock phones. But can't see 3 sim locking it as it would be the only phone they sell that would be sim locked. And they ruled out locking phones years ago.It would be very odd if they started.

Most likely 3 will keep phones unlocked like o2 have. However they might have a custom firmware which would mean longer waiting times for updates, 3 logo on the boot screen some 3 app pre installed and the settings for Volte and WiFi calling.

Maybe we could flash the standard firmware over the device if that concerns us? I've done that on my Samsung previously, not sure if that works on OnePlus devices.

Of note Three are due to start a 5G service early next year, rumors are circulating of a new Oneplus premium phone (oneplus pro?) , compatible with 5G services to launch at the same time

can't see that happening... OnePlus won't release an expensive phone as the community members and future customers just won't buy it...people who want expensive phones go the apple or Samsung route

It's possible but it's not in OnePlus's style to sell a specific phone exclusively with a single carrier & not on their own website (if that's what you meant to say) but it is a possibility

There could possibly be an expensive device along side the standard priced device next year. Giving more choice, it could either work or be a complete flop.
