Confused between 8GB vs 12GB OP7 Pro Variant

    Fellas,

I am torn between the decision on which variant to pick. Purely from a performance standpoint, what do you think? Is the extra ram and investment worth it?

    Cheers & thanks in advance!

If you can afford the 12GB variant go for it.
Ram boost may make use of the additional RAM.
I have a OnePlus 6 8Gb Variant and there's always 3+Gb of free ram available so that's fine too.

If you consider how android manages most of background processes you will be surprised that there is no real difference between 4 or 12 GB of random access memory...

8 GB should be enough, for now at least, 12 GB is overkill in my opinion. If you have the money to buy it or want to really future-proof yourself, go ahead and purchase it.

There shouldn't be any performance increase over the both Variant unless you plan on keeping tons of app running in the background. The main consideration here should be Storage space rather than RAM. And then just buy what you can afford

8gb is overkill. That's the idea of the $30 bump over the 6gb to generate some additional profit on the higher spec'd device as it does not cost OnePlus $30 more for the additional 2gb.

However, resale value will always be better on the 8gb or 12gb if you are the type to sell your device next year when the new phone(s) come out (or even in the fall if they continue with the T or 5G versions).

That's a cheap shot statement, you begrudge the company that makes the best phone dollar for dollar and you complain over the tiny upcharge for 2gigs ram!! Really? Don't piss over $30 bucks when you burn that getting a crap food delivered by Postmates or Doordash. The additional Ram is the cost of a Pizza that disappears in one night.
Learn to be humble and grateful that we have the phone and a company like Oneplus to do be here and build it for us.

It is curious that nobody has done the test with the ram boost to see if it improves the performance in the model of 12gb compared to 8gb. Maybe it's me who has not heard ...

Where and under what circumstances would you need or require 8gb or 12gb?

I have been around since the OnePlus One so I have been a supporter of OnePlus from the beginning as member #1533 and bought my Oneplus One with an invite..

Even MKBHD shows in his video that he uses around 5gb of RAM.

8 gb gives a cushion if you think you need it but in my opinion I don't see the need except for resale value.

It's your money spend it how you like it.

The growth of OnePlus helps the consumer with choices and as they get more users will help to put pressure on the other OEM'S.

What's annoying is the price increase difference, here in the UK it's £100 to go from 8 > 12.
In the US it's $50 which even if we factor in 20% VAT that's still only £47.50 increase, so why are the UK paying twice the upgrade price?

Here's what I'll tell ya. They are sending out bad phones and if you go for the 12gb version replacement on that is like 3 weeks now. Go with the 8gb version that you can get in two days if you happen to get a bad one like me...

12gb of ram is more for bragging rights than truly being useful. Its called spec bumping.

8gb is fine IMO. Apps don't need that much. Look how most 4gb phones can still handle most day to day and social aspects.

Only reason I got an 8gb over the 6gb was the bump in storage to 256gb. For $30 that was worth it.
