Blaise_Lukwayi_N, Feb 5, 2019 : Who are the users? Everyone who uses oxgyen os especially those that change screen orientation a lot. What is the proposed function? Contextual screen auto-rotate. A function in the settings where you can choose which apps have auto-rotate enabled. Just like we have the option to choose which apps can send notifications. There could also be an option to choose which orientation an app is launched in by default which can be useful for apps that are used predominantly in a specific orientation. But also the default rotate setting will still exist and the user can specify whether it is on. In which case all apps would have auto-rotate on. otherwise if the setting is off, then the user can specify which apps would be exceptions. What is the user value? It would give users are smoother experience that feels less like a chore as this is handled for them behind the scenes Existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry and how this proposed feature is superior. Google implemented a similar function in android 9 pie. but in there solution, users still had to manually click rotate in the navigation bar when the device sensed orientation change. The problem is that the orientation is locked and will have to be switched manually again when orientation changes again. With this solution the phone remembers which apps have auto-rotate set and will only automatically rotate the screen in those selected apps. How it would work: Step1: User chooses display settings in settings app. Step 2: User then chooses Auto-rotate. Step 3: Finally the user chooses the apps they would desire to have auto-rotate on for.
