[Submitted] CPU idle clock speed went up on 5.0.2

    swa100 , Jan 31, 2018 :
Update from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 or to OB5 from OB4, then idle clock speed for the little cluster will go up from 300 mhz to 518 and for the bit cluster it will go up from 300 mhz to 806 MHz.

Could this occur because of the cpu security patch? And what effect could this have on battery life?

Yes, me too. Battery life still seems good though. But I do wonder...

Curious if this has happened on every device.

I have commented your post in the 5.0.2 OTA thread, just to spark the discussion and see if anyone else has spotted it, but in vain...

    Hi swa100,

This is Prinas from OnePlus Bug Hunters.

Please kindly note that the thread will be marked as "Solved", since it is not a bug which won't cause battery draining issue. Any other concerns, please create a new thread for further help.

Thanks and have a good day!

    Best,
    Prinas

Prinas, you have to be kidding!

Since this cpu behaviour was absent in 5.0.1 and emerged in 5.0.2, sure it is a BUG. How would you have clasified it otherwise?

Further help from whom if not from you (as OnePlus representative)?

How's this solved? So if a bug won't cause any battery drains they're not considered a bug? I'd like to know why this new cpu idle behaviour comes occurs. Closing this bug thread is not an answer to that. Shame

Edit: but sure, I'll make a new one.

    Sorry for the confusion caused.

I am confirming with engineers, please kindly wait.

    Thanks

This is an issue that is increasing the power consumption while idle from 75mA previously in Nougat, to 180mA now on Oreo.

Please ask OP engineers to have a look into the instantaneous power draw while idle. It causes a slight drain, not hugely noticeable thought.

Please have a look into the mA values, on both cases freshly after a system reset without any apps installed and tasks running in the background.

On Nougat, the instantaneous power draw while idle oscilates between 70 and 90mA(AIDA erroneously calls it Charge Rate, but it's the discharge(since the battery isn't being charged - Status: discharging):

On Oreo, the instantaneous power draw while idle oscilates between 165 and 190mA:

This higher power draw is caused by issues in the CPU governor, since it doesn't let the SoC reach the lower frequency states. Please ask OP engineers to have a look into that.
