If I would be the product manager for nord.
1)I would make the hybrid OLED and E-ink display. As OLED is good for watching videos and playing games but it's not best for E readers like Kindle. But E-ink display provide to read outside under sunlight as well.
Because nord is not only for gamers or so on...

    2) I would also make a starchable screen rather than a fixed one..

Oh well. I do have some ideas for how I would have designed Nord if it was up to me. So here goes-
    1) Screen size : I would have kept the size smaller than what we got, to give it a more compact and premium feel. 5.8 inch is the optimal screen size. It looks great. It feels great. And it's easy to handle. And a smaller screen gives us an opportunity to increase the ppi to give the display more vibrant colours. And a smaller screen size is an added advantage for a 90hz display. Scrolling just got smoother.

    2) Camera : The dual selfie camera system is a welcome addition. It has a great practical use. But since in my point above, I reduced the size of the screen, two cameras will be redundant. Having a single punch hole camera with the same capabilities would make it more convenient.
On the rear side, instead of the depth camera, I would add a telephoto lens, which in all honesty is way more useful.

    3) Fingerprint sensor : Instead of having a fingerprint sensor in the display itself, I would take a different approach. This would also make Nord stand out from the other one plus phones. The idea is to integrate the sensor in the power button itself. This is also a convenient feature. It's more practical than an in-display sensor.

Some additional ideas - The rear camera setup could have been better. Headphone jack is a must when you design a budget phone. What mobile phone companies don't understand is that how much the consumers love headphone jack. It is very much essential. Not everyone can afford wireless headsets. Not everyone wants wireless headsets. The product should meet the requirements of the general populous. It's not that I'm not appreciating what the Nord team has done. I'm just speaking for the people. This phone is great. It could have been better.

Hello to all other creative minds here . Check out my version of Nord and see if this interests you.

    Technical changes

Firstly I would have just 2 variants .. base and top

    Base variant

    6GB RAM , 128 GB storage

AMOLOED display but 60Hz refresh rate (wouldn't hurt to give 90 if price doesn't change much)

    UFS 2.1 storage

Headphone jack a must more so because it's the base variant . Those who can afford buds wouldn't go for a base variant or so I suppose

Mono speakers but front facing .. would rather have a bit of bezels than bad sound

2 cameras at rear : 48 MP main and 8 MP wide angle .. megapixels don't matter as much as software and sensor does .. I feel telephoto isn't a must since 48 MP is pretty high resolution even when cropped. Same reason to drop the macro camera.

    1 wide angle selfie camera

    Price 25,999 Indian rupees

    Top variant

    Same as base except

8/10 GB RAM and 256GB storage (I feel 12GB for 7 series processor is not of much use)

Headphone jack can be sacrificed if that gives an option to expand storage

    UFS 3.0

    AMOLED with 90 Hz

    Dual front facing speakers
    Price : 28,999 Indian rupees

    As far as aesthetics

Nord is beautiful but i might add pearl or marble white colour option maybe even with a few streaks to give it the marble appearance

I would improve the design to something like this
    I would put Snapdragon 855+
Then stereo speakers for sure cuz mono speaker is really not great
Ahh, one more thing the cable colour, ditch the red - we go the nord way
And the screen quality to 4k , 1080p is not enough
A triple camera system cuz the fourth camera (pardon me Oneplus) literally sux and increase the third camera's megapixels
And also matte finish and not the glossy fingerprint catching one

darft1.jpg I would try to bring that one plus x design back that glass finishing back it makes it more classy. our motto is never settle but i feel we can still make the most out of that design or else its the same design every company is using .the specs are good anyway i got tjis idea from my shattered oneplus x

If i were the product manager of nord
1.I would have given 5 mp macro camera in back or would have avoided it and implemented it using software or would have used it through other cameras.
2.I would have given single punch-hole camera in front and provide ultra wide selfies using software. So we can get better viewing experience with more space in screen.
3.I would have provided metal frame instead of plastic.
4.I would have gone with same Snapdragon 765g considering the budget restrictions.
5.I would have implemented square shaped cameras in the back in case if i had used 4 cameras or normal vertical cameras if i had used 3 cameras.
6.I would have given 6.53 inch which is expected by many users as some people feel 6.67 is very large or 6.4 as little bit smaller.
7.I would have provided 8+256 gb varient as 12gb is too much for many users but still they need 256gb storage and pay more for extra ram even though they don't need it.
    8. pricing :
24k for 64gb (i would have provided hybrid slot or triple slots) if i have planned for 64gb varient
    26k for 8+128
    28k for 8+256
    30k for 12+256

Note: I would have used same camera sensors and all other things we have now in nord except the above mentioned points for this budget.

    Oneplus Nord - Budget - 400 Euros

Okay, let's start off with the build.

Using a plastic frame with aluminium buttons and an aluminium Oneplus signature alert slider is a great way to save money to fit a budget. The front would use Dragontrail glass and back would use Corning Gorilla Glass 5 with a nice textured satin finish (just like the Oneplus 8 Pro). The phone does not need to have an IP certified water and dust resistance but some water protection would be in to fit the Oneplus quality standards (if the Dragontrail glass wouldn't be up to the Oneplus quality standards, I would use Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back).

The chipset I would pick would be a non-5G = cheaper but equally powerful option to the Snapdragon 765G. While 5G may be the future, I don't think it's really necessary.

Base model would come with 8 GB of RAM UFS 2.1, 128 GB of storage. To save some money, there is no need to make a second 12GB RAM model in my opinion.

Android 10 with the brilliant and clean Oxygen OS software and 2+ years of major OS updates and security updates.

Battery should not go below the 4000mAh mark to preserve battery life with the high refresh rate display. The phone would feature 30W wired fast charging without wireless charging. The battery would also be smaller because of the addition of the headphone jack and dual stereo speakers.

AMOLED ALL THE WAY ! And of course with the 90 Hz refresh rate ! There is no need to go beyond 1080p on a budget phone. I think 1080p is enough for any phone . Of course the under display fingerprint scanner would be in too. (No need to save money here since this is probably the most used part on a smartphone !)

The camera along with the display is one of the most important components of a phone. That's why I would sacrifice the 2 MP macro camera and the 5 MP depth sensor. These two cameras are not needed to achieve the effects that they are supposed to achieve. I would leave in the 48 MP with OIS as this is a good sensor for a budget phone. Instead of the ultra wide-angle that is in the Nord, I would put in the ultra wide-angle lens from the Oneplus 7T or the 8 Pro which would also have the ability to do macro shots. There would be a hole-punch selfie camera in the top left corner, a 16 MP from the 7T (to save money, if the budget would allow, then let's add one more camera to the front - a ultra wide-angle !)

    Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, USB Type-C 2.0, GPS.

Dual stereo speakers, headphone jack, coin style haptic motor with nice and strong haptics, Dual SIM, No SD card slot.

(In my opinion, the headphone jack is a very important feature of a mid-range phone!)

A protective case, pre-installed screen protector, 30W charging brick with a charging cable (if the budget would allow, let's make the cable D2D Teal ! Also make the accents on the charging brick USB Port D2D Teal too, it's a minor thing but it would be really satisfying to have it like that, just as D2D said)

    Oneplus Nord.png

I have absolutely no experience in design so sorry for the weak design i came up with here. The Nord would have the Blue Marble and Gray Onyx color. The Blue Marble is a really nice eye-catching color which really suits this phone (maybe just rename it to D2D Teal).

Also, I had another idea. To save money on design, why not use the shell of an older Oneplus phone (6T or 7T) and build something into it ? Add wireless charging, stereo speakers, maybe better specs, etc.

I noticed this post only today in the Instagram story, thank you Oneplus for giving us this opportunity to tell you our opinions on how we would do the Oneplus Nord!

I don't want people to think that i copied any ideas that I put into this article. If there are any similar aspects in my article with someone else's then that's a coincidence.
