    Heya David,

welcome back and happy year of the ox. Hope you - and the whole team - had a great time during the holidays.

About your question, I am getting more and more intrigued by rollable phones - namely, the OPPO X 2021. Do you think 2021 will allow for that technology to become commercially available? I mean, just take a look at this video (it's in French, but it gets the point across).

a compact oneplus smartphone? I don't think so...

these innovations are great attempts. I dont know if oppo is ready to push it to the market. my question is, how will this device actually impact your life if you have it on your hands now?

While a lot of people praise this form factor (foldables) to consume video (Netflix, YouTube, etc), I barely watch entertainment on my smartphone.

But I do read a lot and I truly believe the screen could do wonders for that (books and specially long features). More comfortable and more inviting to read. I have a phone with an incredible screen (OnePlus 7 Pro), but the "mood" changes when I read on the iPad, for example.

And there's a ceremony about opening the screen. I don't know, like putting glasses, I believe it can change your concentration and your willingness to read a long article, for example.

Imagine using the phone closed to get to a station and catch the train. And as the journey is about to begin, you open a good article, hit play on Spotify and expand the screen. Assuming the apps don't crash immediately, hehe, it can be an amazing experience, I feel.

PS: Speaking of good articles, if you want, please do give this one a try. It's an amazing piece of writing about Slate Star Codex. It's not that long, but what a rollercoaster, especially if you, like me, don't know what Slate Star Codex was. ;)

This is actually something I wanted to ask someone who prefers a smaller device, so to you and @Dresa91: do you guys see yourselves getting a foldable as a small device?

Let's say a brand you like builds something like the Galaxy Z Flip. A small phone that becomes bigger instead of a big phone that becomes a quasi-tablet (Samsung Galaxy Fold). Would you consider it?

    Maybe.

I'm using my iPad 10.2 for media consumption, reading, notepad for work etc. It's screen is about three times as big as the current 6.5" phone sizes at Oneplus.

I've tried an iPad Mini from a friend, but it's too small for my needs. A foldable phone would have the same problem for me.

I use my phone primarily for texting, the occasional phone call and as a camera. I've noticed the sweetspot for me is max. 70mm wide, think Oneplus X size, or Pixel 4a. I hardly play games. Water proof would be great as I'm sailing quite often.

Besides all that there's a HP windows laptop and an iMac for work, post processing etc. So there will never be an all in one solution for me.

The rumored 3rd 9 series model... Question is... How "mini" would it be?
However personally a size around 8 Pro is optimal for me. I have my iPad Air 4 for certain stuff (kind of a plauge or cholera moment when deciding between an iPad or Samsung S7 surfpad - better hold of the pen and longer term software updates won though) or my stationary PC with 32 inch screen for the rest of my needs.

interesting article... curious to know what's their definition of being a rationalist. for economists, rationality means people will make choices that benefit themselves the most, but on daily basis, when we talk about rationality, it stands for reasonable, sensible.

I completely agree with you. And when we talk about rationality I believe we also talk about adaptation.

It’s fascinating to me how you can apply rationality to waiting in line at the supermarket as well as developing a product. And I do know that you, as part of the OxygenOS team, know this way better than me.

When developing a global product, you have to be rational about it - and here’s the kicker - while counting with rationality from the customers.

What are we if not evangelists of a greater rationality echoing while we define our own? And the rationale is always attached to articulated speech. To express yourself or your work, you need a vehicle. :)

It's the one thing I found most disappointing in the N10.

Hardly cheaper than the regular Nord, i can understand sacrifices had to be made, but why bring it out with Android 10 three months after Android 11 came out?

And also, giving it just one major update (which will be said Android 11, and lord knows when) is basically an insult to customers.

    Do better...
