    I agree Richard.

I needed a new phone. Went with a nexus 5 last week. Going to be buying my mom a phone for her birthday in August. It will also be a nexus 5.

That's 2 sales lost right there.

Seems like oppo behind all this.

I'm waiting to see who wins the race. Nexus 6 or invite for OPO, since i'm way in the back as numbers go. I'm gonna put my money on a beautiful Nexus 6. :p

    • Yes, the secondary market is frustrating. The invite system is being used because the rate of production is still variable, though ramping up. Few customers would be happy if they ordered a product (other than an Aston Martin or similar) and had a wait of indefinite length. Many would bail and buy something else resulting in customer interaction (costs) to cancel. The invite system encourages involvement and minimizes costs. BTW, minimizing costs in advertising, marketing and software development and maintenance also helps keep prices down.

    • I was impressed by the specs, but without a known UI I wouldn' t have touched it at any price. CM was an inspired choice because it hits all the requirements. Yes, sticking with my current provider is costing me extra but I won't jump ship until I get my OPO.

The reason that the phone is cheaper is not "invite system" or other bs, its just that they don't want to over price it like almost every other phone. All phones should be around this price. For example to produce 1 iPhone Apple pays few bucks, 2-3. So the real reason that phone is cheap is that they want to either push the market or just stand out.

invite system is fine as long as it doesn't too long for someone to get it. Whatever system if you have to wait months then it's CRAP! Still it give me time to look at other competitors phones :)

very easy to say as someone who just joined yesterday, and hasn't been through the last few months as some have. it's also not the same dog-and-pony show it was not all that long ago when you had to dance on command and sell out all your social media contacts for a chance at one of a small handful of invites.

I'm in for the waiting until the next big thing drops. If something else catches my eye before getting an invite, I'll peace out in a heartbeat. It's just a phone. There's another one on the next corner.

That method then leads to people handing money over to a startup a long time before getting the handset and time spent handling cancelations. It would have changed the complaints.

The issue is actually demand way above supply.

Invites or not, This amazing phone is available in both colors and both flavors in ROM (64gb for each white & black phones). only a $50 to $100 difference depending where you buy it! Wait all you want but ill rather pay $50 mores ($375) then what OnePlus is selling their 64GB ($349) for. Plus the 64GB is available in both the White or Black version as well. I'll make my $50 back easy in about an hour tops so paying a little more is nothing compare to the over$$$ Samsung Galaxy series phones! ($600+)...

Initially there were few haters, cynicism has gradually set in, since it dawned on many that supply would remain severely restricted for the foreseeable future. I fail to comprehend how the invite model keeps prices low, as it appears to be the opposite of economies of scale :(
