Yes, of course it's not new technology. But like the tech or not, this is a big deal. I've been a huge advocate for motion interpolation and wanted FI on Android for years. This is a huge first.

I don't see why authorial intent should matter, and I don't agree with purity arguments. However, it's absolutely the case that how well FI performs will depend on the content (as well as FI settings) and also absolutely the case that FI can result in unwanted artifacting/visual oddities. Stuff like nature documentaries, and native high resolution 60FPS content in general, benefit greatly from FI. It's easier to predict interrim frames if the source is higher quality, and for content that was meant to be smooth, it makes even more sense to make it smoother. Some movies do have some things designed to revolve around the rather slow 24FPS framerate. Personally, I very much dislike low framerate and prefer FI on everything.

How much the smoothing can be customized may determine its usefulness.

We both sold our S20 Ultra's to come back to OP. The Autofocus for lack of a better worked, well... sucked. I am blown away by the display, the camera, the build quality, etc. I'm glad wireless charger was added, we managed to get in on the bundle and the accessories absolutely softened the platform move. I'm really impressed with the display though, this is a significant upgrade from the screen on my S20 Ultra imo. Great job by OnePlus this generation.

Hi @Pete, I would start by appreciation OnePlus deserves specially in Indian market considering the prices. Best price globally. I'm planning to buy 8 pro, but little disappointed by the colour options. It would be really great if you make the ultramarine blue available for all varient. This is what I think most of the Indian are disappointed with, apart all is great!
I will hold until the ultramarine blue is available in 8GB+128GB varient.

120Hz , Lol. Asphalt 9 can't even run on 60Hz in our phones. Not in OnePlus 7 nor 8 series.

Thanks for the update @Pete . There are so many interesting aspects. It is interesting to think of all the aspects and what a device can do. In the meantime, when do you think content producers will be able to consistently film or produce at higher FPS and how is that going to affect viewing platforms (e.g. tv and phones)?

    Great read @Pete...
    Thanks for that...

I'd like to know if the display is native 10 bit or 8 bit +FRC ..?

Not that it would make a big difference but it doesn't say in the spec's... ;)

    My PC-Monitor especially mention it...

It’s great to see you guys have spend a lot of time fine tuning the display.

however there have still been lots of reports of bad uneven colors leaving people with a grey and greenish look when brightness is low. I hope you will address this if it’s really just a minor issue or if hardware revisions are needed.

Just seems like an odd situation and I really hope it’s not as bad as I sounds, but it shouldn’t happen on such an expensive phone.

How is the sampling rate at the OnePlus 8 Display? I think the OnePlus 8 Pro has 240Hz sampling rate at Display inputs. @OnePlus
