Deep Dive: Exploring the performance of a true flagship hardware setup

Hi there I used to be a OnePlus mod back when the first OnePlus phone launched. Yes UFS 3.1 has already launched but not for that long and only less than a handful of phones use UFS 3.1. The recently released iQOO 3, Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro Zoom and a few upcoming smartphones.

To answer your question - certain features from UFS 3.1 can be used in UFS 3.0. OnePlus are using the Turbo Write and Host Performance Booster from UFS 3.1 so the read/write speeds in the OnePlus 8 will be roughly the same as in UFS 3.1 smartphones.

Only thing that's missing from the OnePlus 8 is a feature called Deep Sleep from UFS 3.1 that enables greater power efficiency.

I think it’s safe to say that the top model at 120hz and 240hz touch sensing will feel lag-free. We are crossing the boundaries of how humans perceive latency due to the technological advancements. I used a Oneplus 7T Pro at 90Hz and couldn’t perceive lag

Hello there the Realme X50 Pro 5G uses UFS 3.0 with Turbo Write & Host Performance Booster. It gets comparable speed's to UFS 3.1 phone's like the IQOO 3, only disadvantage is a bit less power efficient. As it doesn't have the Deep Sleep mode of UFS 3.1.

Samsung, the last time I checked are only making 12 and 16GB.
The OP 12GB may well also be Micron as they are producing it now too.
I haven't seen detailed specs on either as yet so I can't comment on speed, the MI 10 and anything with DDR 5 under 12gb will also be using them so I will be keeping an eye out.

These boys are doing UFS storage too, so it will be interesting to see where they turn up.

Fully agree, those two features of the UFS 3.1 standard are relevant for the NAND speed improvements. It’s interesting how they managed to take those two and implement them in 3.0. Can’t wait for the actual speed benchmarks, we may see very similar speeds OP UFS 3.0 vs generic UFS 3.1

Makes sense, thanks for the explanation. I agree that speed-wise we’ll see very similar speeds with UFS 3.1 to the point that margins won’t make much of a difference. Good for OP for managing to implement that

Hi don't get dismayed by OnePlus using UFS 3.0 for the OnePlus 8. Turbo Write and Host Performance Booster are features from UFS 3.1 so the read/write speeds in the OnePlus 8 will be as fast as the read/write speeds of UFS 3.1 phone's.

I've owned a OP 1,2,3,6 and 6T loved them all. Still using the OP6T and still running like the day I took it out of the box. Looking forward to trying out the OP 8. I will be looking in the mailbox everyday.

See 6 comments above. With those 2 speed inprovements that are not present in the generic UFS 3.0, OP UFS 3.0 will be as fast as UFS 3.1 with a small power penalty
