Default App notification sounds are all overridden by OS?

    hi all,

I searched the forum and couldn't find a proper solution for this, so started this thread. If this is a duplicate please point me to the right direction.

I am new to OnePlus. All my previous phones kept the app default sounds of apps. As an example, Yahoo Mail used to sound like Yahoo Mail, WhatsApp used to sound like WhatsApp and Viber used to sound like Viber :)

Now I am with this OnePlus 6T, everything but every app installed sounds the same as the default notification and/or call setting.

I hope OnePlus community would help me about this as I do not feel like I am 'not settling' this way.

Am I supposed to download original sounds for each and every app and select a specific sound for them? Hope not!

    Cheers 🤘

Some apps have an option in their internal App settings to set a notification sound. By default once installed they generally use the default sound already set.

Check each app Settings to set the notification sound you want for each. There is a selection of notification sounds to choose from.

that's exactly what I didn't want to hear to be honest. you do not need to do any of these with other brands, you know?

Had Samsung, Pixels and other model phones before, and they all do the same thing. Mostly the apps use the default sound already selected for notifications.

However it's just a matter of changing to the sound you want to personalise within the app itself. Takes a few seconds for each app, and there won't be that many, unless your phone is dinging all day long.

Mine did, until I personalised notifications for each app. That's why there are personalisation options within the apps.

In WhatsApp, click on the 3 dot menu top right, select Settings, then Notifications, scroll down and you can chose your tone from there.

Other brands uses the default original notification/call sound for the app itself where my OnePlus 6T uses the phone default sound.

and I believe as you already discovered that there's no option for the apps original sounds to set, yes?

You can choose a tone from the list when you click on Notification. Including DEFAULT Notification
Thought you said you used these apps on other phones before. These setting are pretty common on all apps with Notifications.
This is a partial list image below many more down that list in the options for tones.

All original sounds and many others are listed in Notification Tones for each sections, Call, Groups etc. You can set them individually.

Selecting Default notification tone in WhatsApp gives you the tone from your system default sound settings, not the app, my Pixel 4XL does the same thing.
