Difference between power saving, balanced & performance?

    I have place a setting in the quick panel to change between power saving, balanced & performance.

    Anyone know what changes inside the phone when I switch between these 3 mode?

    Performance -> Constant maximum CPU frequency (2.4GHz).
    Balanced -> CPU frequency between 300MHz - 2.4GHz
    Power saving -> CPU Frequency between 300MHz - 1GHz.

    Cool answer! Thanks!

    Other than that, does it change any setting? (wifi, bluetooth, 3g, etc)

    As I have seen it just changes the CPU states. Nothing else, not even GPU.

    That's pretty cool. As a current blackberry user these are the kind of things I'm looking forward to.
    Is it possible to link other things such as wifi, bluetooth, etc. in the same quick panel? Maybe changing to power saving disables all of them?

    I only see two settings in the Quick Panel: "Battery Saving" or "High Accuracy".

    You can add a toggle in quick settings panel for performance settings. I go to power save when I am not using the phone.

    Right .. but this would mean, that when needed, the performance in the "Balanced" option would go as high as the performance in the "Performance" option, right? Yet this is not true: when I have my OPO set to Balanced and play a game (for example Asphalt 8: Airborne - and this is not the only game where I have experienced this), the game runs great, but there is some lag in the menus (yes, I have no freakin' idea why in the menus .. as if THIS is the hardware-killing part of an app or what??). If I have my OPO set to Performance and run the game, everything runs smoothly, even the menus. So what's the catch?

    @Green1230 It's probably because the menu isn't that demanding so it throttles back but then because it's running at a slower speed it momentarily can't keep up with the demand for more performance, which you perceive as lag.

    If you enable developer options (by clicking on the build number 5 times) you can change the CPU governor, which might give you a better result. I'd suggest you read up on these things before though so you know what you're getting yourself in to.

    Alternatively you could try something like Tasker and have it so that whenever you run your games it automatically switches to Performance mode.
