Disable proximity sensor?

The sensor is used to blank the screen during phone calls, but it is also being used during video calls, such as in Teams or Zoom. This is super annoying as moving my hand near the top of the screen (say trying to pull down notification menu) sets it off. Also being in a dark room pretty much constantly blanks the screen which is very frustrating.

The proximity sensor is not a light dependent sensor as the name itself suggests.

Good point about the dark room - sometimes I think the sensor gets confused and the screen keeps blacking out every 15(?) seconds. It just happened in a fully lit room and the phone was in a mount, nothing near the sensor.

I think it's worse for me because I'm left handed and the sensor seems to be in the upper left, so it's very difficult to avoid it.

The proximity sensor reset app requires rooting I think? So not really an option for me.
