FM will eventually be phased out. The next big thing is DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting). Not many smartphones have it implemented, but the industry is working on it.

India(chennai) last year we had an huge flood washing away the whole city, we dint have electricity for a week, no food, no tv, no internet, all the cell phone towers were down, hell we were also not able to make calls in our mobile for that week, and in that time fm radio was the only way of communication through the city, we listened to what was happening in the city, where there was power, when will the situation be normal and all that in fm radio, we basically survived through radio. And we heard about all the rescue numbers through radio, and if anyone wanted help and wanted to offer help they would tell in radio, many homes were destroyed and people willing to offer a place to stay told their numbers in radio so that they could let people with no place to stay in their homes.

so, for all the *** holes trying to think they are some modern bitches who thinks radio is history, remember it saves a lot of life even now. Maybe your country is so developed so you don't have an single power cut or your cell networks are never down but there are some places where people still depend on these basic things. So, it is an big deal for us even if it is not for you.
