Dual Sim on 6T TMobile

  1. Ellinas89 Eclair Nov 1, 2018

    Ellinas89, Nov 1, 2018 :
Just picked up my 6T from TMobile, didn't realize that it was going to be locked and only have a single SIM. The single SIM tray is the same size as the dual SIM tray but with one of the cut outs filled in. I'm wondering if you use a dual tray from the unlocked version if the phone will accept both SIMs or if it's been software locked. If anyone has both and could give it a shot that'd be cool.

Someone asked T-Mobile on Twitter and their response was that their back end doesn't support dual SIM devices

Not accurate. I have the 6 with dual sims and works just fine on tmobile network. I traded in my op1 for op6t and wanted to use the dual sim but cant. I inserted the op6 sim tray with dual sims but the phone doesn't recognize it. Must be a software issue. Need OP to pressure tmobile for dual sim.

The T-Mobile model only has 1 IMEI putting a dual SIM tray in won't do anything

Once you flash the international software on the Tmobile phone, would you be able to get 2 IMIE numbers and make the dual sims work?

I've spoken with both TMO and Oneplus. Nobody seems to be able to confirm. I asked the same question myself too in the forums. Every article that has reported on the differences haven't specifically said if the hardware is only capable of one sim or if it's the same hardware and just software locked.

Also Oneplus stated to me that if you purchased the phone thru TMO, everything has to be directed to them. I doubt TMO has a pile of dual sim trays sitting somewhere. Oneplus originally told me they'd send me a dual sim tray, and then backed out. So I don't know where we go from here.

Sounds like dual Sim trays will be coming to fleabay and its Chinese counterpart in the near future.

Reason for the single sim in the US version is because the demand for a dual SIM is simply not there. Most US citizens only use one sim even when they go on vacation to other countries. So one sim is usually enough. That's a summary of what I read online.

Edit: Here is the attachment from Android Authority which goes through the difference between The global variant and the T mobile.

The OnePlus 6T is available directly from T-Mobile, but don't expect the exact same experience as the unlocked model.

The question was asked on Twitter and T-Mobile stated that the dual SIM option is not supported on the networks back end!

Dual sim won't work and you can't flash the international rom on the T-Mobile variant.

Correct I read that also. However, Tmobile does support dual sim on their network and I don't just mean internationally. I've read people successfully utilizing 2 different US carriers on their phones. Even the manager at TMO showed me his dual sim phone using both AT&T and TMO.

Number of imei's depends on the type of dual sim. This device is dual sim dual standby (DSDS). Dual sim dual active (DSDA) requires 2 imei because 2 lines are active at the same time.

It might be that T Mobile's statement about not supporting dual sim is based on the fact they don't yet support iPhone's dual sim technology, as one is an esim. Two physical sims like the 6t sold directly from Oneplus could be different

TMO employees got a lot of info shoved down their throats in a short amount of time. It is very likely they are mixing up information. I did read about the esim situation. Most US carriers are not on board with it yet.
